Default painting steps

I've read that some of you guy paint the jams and then assemble the car, I am planning on painting all the jams , under the rear lid and hood and then reassembling the whole car minus the lights. should I clear all these areas also? I'm also wondering once the car is assembled and I shoot the out side should I tape everything that I have already painted to keep paint from finding its way through the spaces in the door and hoods? there's seams to be a lot of pros and cons to this. just not wanting to miss any spots but keep the out side uniform and even in color and depth. my work area is small and I cant hang everything and still move around with out something getting touched this is another reason I need to assemble the car to shoot. any suggestions or tips? how about some pics of tape cars for ideals?

Manuel,
I paint and restore Corvettes for a living and the amount of information that I am willing to share to an individual who asks about paint prep or taping or other procedures would take me hours of typing when it is easier for me to talk to them over the phone.( like many, many other forum members have done)..so I can answer questions quickly instead of playing forum "tag". Which in some cases they have to wait for a response....which holds them up on getting the job finished.

I truely do not care if you like the way I do it or not because it is NOT about you. And if it were a post you made...I would respond in the same way so I would know where you are in the process and what steps you have already taken...once again... so I do not WASTE my time giving information that YOU do not need.

My advice I give to a person who wants it is FREE. I DO NOT care about ...as you put it... a "hook up board". I am trying to help those who ask...and if they make the call...I will help them...and if it is not written on the forum...get over it...because YOU did not ask for help.

No matter what ANYBODY does in this life...you can not PLEASE EVERYBODY. My best to you....

Im not looking for you or anyone to please me! Just don't expect to read in a form "just call me" only and no other answer. There is Private Messages for that. Anyway not much else to say about this, I just stated my opion and you stated yours, end of game.

"DUB", I agree with AL, I won't even tell the board how long we were on the phone last Saturday, just from you taking the time to explain various processes's about painting provided me with a wealth of info. As I had mentioned to you it was and is greatly appreciated. And that goes for everyone else who tries to help forum members out. That's what the forum should do, regardless of the communication tools used to accomplish a member's request.......Tom

That's all great for sure, but still if a quistion is asked on a form answer it there for all to learn by also. You got a bunch of help but your quistions were not all made public and that is just fine, not what my comments were about.

I have not received a response to my original post Manuel. SO why should I type for hours unless I know what I am dealing with....BECAUSE it makes a difference! A BIG DIFFERENCE! The original post did not have enough detailed information for me to respond with proper technique or procedures...which I am still willing to give....if the information is posted.

I KNOW what I am talking about....when it comes to repairing/restoring/painting Corvettes like many others on the forum who are professionals in this field.

Thanks Tom....I appreciate the opportunity for you to allow me to try to help you.

And just for fun.....if you care to entertain this idea....How long would you think it would have taken me to type all the information we talked about on Saturday? Just so others can understand the intense communication that can occur to answer questions....and the diverse ways that a repair can be achieved with great results.

Best to all concerned.

To answer your question "DUB", you would still be typing todayfor all the info you gave me. Manuel, I can understand what you mean, but you should also understand that there are times when it would be near impossible for "DUB" to write a response to a question on this forum, and this is one of those times. Believe me, he is one of the nicest guy's to speak with, he doesn't rush you on the call, or make you feel like any question you may have is unimportant. Once again, he is a great "value" to this forum along with others who take the time to help us out. I know I am repeating myself, but it's worth repeating. So just relax a little and if you need any additional info for your request, I am sure you will get responses to help you out.
Later................................... .....Tom
