And I got to ask this and I don't mean any disrespect, But WHY use single stage pint on something as nice as a 68 corvette?

Now that ive fulfilled my moral obligation. Most single stage paints can be top coated with a clear coat. 2K Urethane SS can be top coated with most of the popular clear coats used today. Other single stage paints like Acrylic enamel or synthetic enamels are a bit more tricky.
I have the full PPG color system program on my laptop, if you will tell me the type of PPG single stage I will get you the product data sheet and a list of approved clear coats.
Oh and in the future, don't listen to internet rumors about SPI, Berry likes to make fake accounts on many forums to promote his SPI products.. If ever in a doubt just remember, company's such as DuPont, PPG, RM, BASF,HOK, SW etc have invested millions and millions of dollars for scientists & chemist to develop their products to compete with each other to be the best. Before a product is ever released to the public it has been through years of testing and passed many quality test. Do you really believe a small company located in blairsville GA is going to be able to compete with the quality of company's that not only invest millions in quality control but also have supplied OEM coatings and approved replacement coatings for all the automotive manufactures in the last 50+ years? Until a year ago SPI printed all their on labels from a home printer.

I have used SPI undercoats for several years, and I see nothing wrong with them. They are as good or better than most. And, you are not paying for sponsorship of the rainbow warriors.

And have even used them for my own cars. I also agree with you that clear coating a single stage paint defeats the purpose of the single stage. But their is nothing wrong with doing it.
But Single stage's have some disadvantages to bc/cc that should be noted.
:Metallic colors can not be polished
:They don't have the UV protection of clear coat.
:They don't have the level of D.O.I that bc/cc does.
:Because they don't have protection of the clear coat they tend to require more maintenance
:They can be quite hard to match if ever in an accident.
:They tend to be less forgiving then bc/cc for novice painters.
As far as SPI goes, The people that like SPI have a strong support that can only be questionable at best. Ive personally used SPI clear and was not impressed with short term or long term quality. I would be happy to discuss about it in a dedicated thread or through pm's. No need to ***** up this man's thread anymore then I already have.
i remember when hok was just a small custom paint supplier. sure seems to have done ok as i'm sure spi will . yearone seems to like it as do a lot of high end restoration shops .
