I bought my 2000 C5 coupe in April 2008. The car looked very clean and had 48500 miles on the clock. I was the third owner. Had a carfax report that showed no accidents, had what looked like complete maintenance information from the time it was originally purchased and it was well taken care of. The only recurring theme was a problem with drive belts and tensioners. The car is black and when I picked it up there seemed to be no obvious issues, swirling, or scratches apparent and it looked like it had just been waxed. About 3 months after I purchased the car I had it professionally detailed and an application of Zaino applied. The car looked great. As the car is a daily driver and sees a lot of sun here in Florida I wash it each week and apply a touch up detail spray about once a month and polish and wax each 6 months. In August 2009 I noticed that the passenger side door was hazing over and becoming cloudy. It is only on the door and only from the top of the body side molding to the top of the door. I used some Meguairs paint cleaner I had on hand and it cleared right up. Then reapplied some Zaino. However the hazing returns about every 3 months, and can be cleared up. Upon inspection I noticed where you can see what appears to be a tape line on the top of the door against the window weather strip. So I am guessing that the door was repainted for some reason though the carfax showed no accidents or body work reported. I am thinking maybe it was keyed, scratched that the owner had repaired. I am guessing that either the clear coat used was not applied in sufficient quantity, or it was applied to long after the base coat was applied, or there was no clear coat applied. My question is, can I have just the door painted and successfully blended to the rest of the car. Aside from some rock chips on the bottom of the rocker panels which you cannot see unless under the car, the rest of the paint is in very good condition with great depth and gloss. I will eventually have the entire car repainted when I add some other mods (front spoiler, raised hood and rear spoiler and possibly rear fenders with flares) but that is not any time soon. I have also a marred rocker panel, passenger side as well, right under the middle of the door where I hit a parking curb in a parking lot. It was one of those planter islands. The scratch is clear through to the fiberglass about 5 inches long and 3 inches wide with several deep gauges. It needs to be filled primed and painted. While having that done is when I thought to have the door also repainted/corrected. Any comments advice is welcomed and appreciated, and if anyone has a ballpark cost estimate, that would be very helpful as well.
