Paint Cracks & Paint Prep
I have an 84 that I just bought and will repaint this winter.
With it being a previous repaint it really looks great exept for the couple of paint cracks in the bumpers, one 3" spider in the hood just inboard of the passenger side hood latch and the hidiuous gold color (no offense to gold owner, its simply a personal preference).
I believe because the rest of the car looks so good I will avoid a full strip down of paint, but my challenge is how to address the cracks without complete strip. Do I take them down and feather out, or do I have to completely strip hood and bumpers, or maybe sand and fill cracked areas??? Any help would be appreciated. Oh, I am assuming my cracks are paint deep only. But if I have to V and fill, would this change things?? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I know there a some very knowlegable individuals out there. Thanks

If they are in the glass you will need to grind a V almost totally through the panel and at least 2" across and fill with SMC resin and mat.
Then sand and fill scratches with bondo and prime out over the feathered and sanded paint.
