I'm looking for a Blue Black in a PPG DBC, I've looked and talked to the PPG guys, local mixers and so on...too young they don't know squat if you don't have a model car your screwed.
I've been told ppg dbc 9700, ppg dcc 9300, mercedes black, toyota black....to me these all seem to be brown black....hopefully you have a mix that you've shot that looks, rich, deep and sinfully/sinisterly black (like hot tar black or crude oil)...
I've even been told to put kk blue tint into the base ... black toner into the clear....use euro clear and so on....
So please.....help me with this!
I'll even spring the dime to call and talk to you!
Thanks in advance!
Steve
i used ppg DBC 9500 (jet black) on my previous cars roof, It didn't have a brown hue in sunlight. I know exactly what you mean about brown black. 9500 was a deep black in all light conditions. EDIT- im dumb and didn't read the "blue black" part. A good mixer should be able to mix up a half pint so you can spray a test panel to see if its to your liking.
Best thing you could do is look through a book of color chips... You may have to go to a specialty paint line like house of color (I believe that is ppg product) to avoid searching by manufacturer...
That said, in my experience, both solid black from Porsche, and Volkswagen don't have any brown (warm) tones to them as many other blacks do... Jaguar also has a really nice black
You might also go to the local car dealership and browse colors
Dupont makes a factory packaged black # G9900. It is supposed to be blacker than the paint that get mixed off of the mixing machine.
If it's still made, DuPont's 805J mix toner is the blue hue of black.
Just ask your paint people how each black moves, there are basically 3 different blacks, a low strength, a high strength which moves brown and a jet black which moves blue.
Why don't you give the PPG Tech Line "Color Library " or the Dupont " Color library " .. Either one can tell you what the blackest black formula that is available you got nothing to loose and probably save yourself time and money sampling different blacks at least you can narrow in down. Good luck, Wes
rm makes a good black.
keep in mind humidity plays a big part in browning a black. cheap reducers have high levels of acetone in them and will absorb moisture. i try to shoot black on the driest day and while the humidity is low.
You may not one to mix match but i have done it and it is black as black comes. Use house of kolor bc25 or bc26(cant remember which one is which, one is white the other is black). Anyways the HOK is black and i always use like dupont 7500 or 7900 clear over it and talk about beautiful. If you wanted to use HOK clear you could use uc35 or ufc35. the ufc35 is a flow clear. little slicker than the other
