I was using U-pol reducer it said standard I used the last of it with my color black ss Omni.I had runs more than I expected it seem to flow OK.After sanding I put another coat but I used Omni reducer (fast) I got a ton of orange peel.I found out that the U-Pol standard is a med reducer
I mixed the paint 4:1:1 the temp was about 65 if I use more reducer then I have will it help to flow. Thanks Vince
Sorry we missed this but the Medium was your best choice and to avoid runs up air at gun 3-5 lbs and make sure wall regulator is set as high as it will go, so you have proper scfms.
To answer your question, if using a fast reducer at a cool temp using more can actually cause paint to dry faster because you are killing the solids. Now using a slow or medium at cool temps, more will slow down.
I went out this morning and got some med reducer just finished shooting it it looks a lot better. I think I got some bad information about reducer. With all the reading and asking question about paint nobody ever mention I was told if below 70 use fast. Live and learn I just love sanding!!! Thanks Vince
Reducer speed is the most misunderstood thing in painting.
Had a guy call me the other day from FL, he had shot a real good grade Single stage on the front end of his car. Three days later it is still soft and jobber says you just did not give it enough flash time.
He calls and I go through the million questions and bottom line is he used a fast activator and a fast reducer at 94 approx degrees.
Like I told him it will need 2-3 days in sun before all the solvents get out to where he can buff or about three months inside.
Fast is never faster in hot weather.

I used a medium reducer at Christmas time, it was about 50 degrees outside. I kinda got stuff finishing it. The basecoat went on fine. The last coats of the clear coat ran off the car - a major screwup.
I had to scrape off the runs with a single sided razor blade, worked fine. It came out OK, but that was a lot of extra work.
