To my knowledge, all Corvettes, from the beginning, used red oxide primer. At least through C-3 anyway...

My wife was the original owner of a '79 C-3, that was finished in the very light blue, that was offered in '79 and '79. There were some "issues" with the OE finish, which the dealer corrected. I stopped into the dealer's shop, while the car was there, and it appeared to me, that the car was shot with light gray primer, due to the car's light paint hue.
