Default C5 frame clean/strip and repaint

Hi everyone!

I have a '99 FRC that I have disassembled so I can get all of the road salt and other gunk off of the frame before it can rust through. I'm looking for tips on how to get started. I have a portable media blaster that I plan on using (unless y'all tell me not to).

Any tips for repainting it would be appreciated. I'm not too concerned about it looking good, but I want to do it well enough that the frame is thoroughly protected.

Pictures of its current condition would be helpful to see what you're working with!!

When you say "disassembled," do you mean that the body is off the frame?

I took my '71s body off the frame for a complete restoration. Just surface rust on the main frame so I blasted it out in the driveway because it was already apart so why not? I sprayed Eastwood Internal Frame Coating on the insides and then brushed POR-15 on the outsides. I was happy with the results. If the rust isn't too bad, they say that POR-15 [Paint Over Rust] can be used without fully derusting but all the loose flakes should be removed.

As for repainting, I have no experience with that - it's coming up on my project after I get all the old paint off and do some body repairs...

If you have the coin I would have the frame sand blasted and powder coated. Then some type rust preventer inside the frame. Powder coat loves a sand blasted metal.
In lieu of that I would still blast it and use Rustoleum primer and paint products. I assume after all your work it won't see any harsh weather.

Sorry about that! I didn't even think of including a picture. I'll add it to the first post. The white gunk is mainly road salt and maybe some mold. I should have been more careful with words. Repainting isn't exactly what I meant. POR-15 will work fine. Thank you for recommending it!

Thank you for the recommendations! I have a somewhat local powdercoating shop that can do the frame. I just need to get it over to them. I probably need to remove all of the glued-on pieces from the car.

I'm really bad about keeping cars away from harsh weather. I just like to drive my toys. I'm in North Carolina now, so it won't see any road salt again! It'll probably see rain if I can stop the turbos from ingesting the water.

**For some reason, I am getting an error saying to shorten my post to 600,000 characters or less. I think the site is glitching.
