Default Epoxy Primer Q

Data sheet doesn't mention it, so I thought I'd ask. Do you strain/filter your epoxy or 2k primers? If so, what micron size filter would you use?

Thanks

This is what I use for SPI epoxy
https://www.harborfreight.com/pack-o...ers-91378.html

I strain everything and never had a problem except the SPI 2K will plug if you diddle around and not move quick. Suggest you check SPI website forum too.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Pat, I went and bought some of those. Follow on question, I started to sweat during my first coat of epoxy. Some of my sweat got on the raw fiberglass, I wiped it down and then being a bone head, epoxied right over the top of it. Any idea how I should proceed? Sand it down and wipe with alcohol?

I have sprayed a fair amount of SPI epoxy primer. Not sure what brand you are using or if it even makes a difference.
My 2 cents: if i had had this happen and i had dribbled oil or WD40, I would be concerned and do as you say and hope for the best. If sweat dribbled on it i would have done the same as you. My guess is it is likely no big deal. Sweat might contain some oil but mostly water and a little salt so I would not be worried. After the epoxy hardens I would check to see if it looks ok and seems to be adhering & then continue on.

Hope this helps. You might ck the SPI forum. Lots of pro painters there and free forum. I am sure you are not the first on this.

I don't normally strain primer if the can is clean. (I'll be sanding the primer anyway). I tend to keep my can tops clean. But sure, never hurts. Too fine of a strainer it'll just run through slower.

If you use PPS cups, you don't really need to strain sealer or paint (cup caps have a fine screen in them). But if you're using a gravity cup, strain paint/clear as you pour it into the spray gun.
