I'm getting ready to choose a H/C package. What are people doing about emissions testing? How large a cam is getting past emissions? I want to go a large a possible but still pass emissions with a good tune. Please let me know how you are dealing with this issue with your larger cams.
A lot of it will depend on your state’s method of testing. In Maryland OBD2 cars (1996+) are tested by the emissions facility’s scanner which plugs into your vehicle’s diagnostic port. If your car is running properly and has no trouble codes in the computer, it passes. With this method of testing you can go as radical as you want with the heads and cam as long as it is tuned properly and doesn’t produce trouble codes (check engine light).
If you have to pass a tailpipe test, I think a 224/224 cam is as large as you want to go.
I actually went to have my Vette tested this morning. It was too low to drive over the rollers in the floor of the facility, so they gave me a waiver for 2 years.

From some shady tuners this means turning off the rear 02's and air pump equipment.
