Default shift points - a4

where does a '00 c5 a4 make max power at? im about to reprogram my shift points on my predator. i had it set at 6100rpms across the board. i think these shift point hurt me in the 1/4. i going to set 1st at 5750, 2nd at 5800, 3rd at 6000 and 4th at 6000, i think i should be able to pick up some ET with the new shift points.......
your opinions please?

Here is a dyno sheet from my 04 that I did yesterday.

As A Disclaimer ::: I just bought it and I have not yet figured out all of the things that the previous owner did. I belive that the only mods were an aftermarket (complete) exhaust.

So if this has any relation to YOUR car, then you are probably on the right track pulling the shift points down below 6100.

I used a hypertech III to set my shift points. My best qtr mile times were shifting 6200-6300 rpms. I set my rev limiter at 6600. I experimented from about 5700 -6500 rpms. Not more than a tenth difference between any of the settings. My car is mostly stock, CAI, hypertech III, cat back.

Remember it is not just about where the engine makes max power in the gear you are in. You also must consider what the rpm is when it shifts into the next higher gear. Best way is to go to a test and tune night, change shift points on 1st to 2nd and leave 3rd alone do a run from 5700 rpms to 6500 rpms adding 100 rpms at a time. Then do the same with 2nd-3rd and leave 1st alone. Then reprogram both points using the best times from this procedure.

Last year I used a Predator on my 2000 A4 with minor addons and the higher I raised the shift points the quicker & faster it went at the track. The highest I set the shift points to was 6400 since my Predator had a 6600 rev limit. I also set it with max shift pressure and minimum delay. Iam not telling you that you have to shift at 6400 that is up to you but you are definitely headed in the wrong direction if you lower your shift points. If you went slower at the track then something else is going on.

I agree going below 6000 rpm's is going to hurt your time. But I am not sure 6400 is the answer either. When I did my testing with a hypertech, maxing out how close I could come to the 6600 rev limit setting actually lost a little, (very little) time. I settled with my shift points around 6300 being optimal. I think the best way is to experiment at the track, it may vary slightly from car to car also. You must keep good WX info though or you are really just pi$$ing in the wind. The reason I say this is the difference in time is so slight it could be accounted for by the WX even if you are running back to back. Good luck.
