Default My car is getting slower

We had a Street Wars last night and I
Ok I got the M/t drag radials but no gains.

Start of the year was
12.64 @ 110 and a 1.86 on regular Nitto's
best today was 13.13 @ 107 and a 1.96 on M/T Drags

Mods are
'98 Built A4, Pt2400, 3:73's, Blackwing W/cover, LS6 intake, LongTubes no cat's 3" X and B&B Rt 66's. MSD Wires and M/T drags. To much money for 13's. Vette Doctors e-mail tune.
The of the whole thing was loseing to a 4 banger Mustang, i ran a 14 and no traction. The 13.13 was when I hooked.

I can't handle this anymore

Dont feel bad, I am in the same situation. I went from a 7.42 in the 1/8 to now a 7.98 all while losing 4 mph. My guess is your car is pulling timing from knock or false knock. Once your on the low octain map the car feels slow. Have someone scan your car to see what the knock multiplier is.

You should be geting 1.7 60's or very close to that.
What PSI did you try the tires at?
You mention traction issues but was that your car only or the track in general?

Are you getting a good burnout using a line lock?

I started at 26psi and ended up at 20psi before the track was to far gone. I was hooking early in the night but it's like I have to learn all over how to launch compared to launching with my old streets tires. My trap speed is something I noticed that didn't seem right, 107 when it used to be 110. I need to get my scanner on it but I think my obd2 port has a problem. When I run the scanner it shuts my car down on a hard launch, doesn't happen when it's not hooked up. oh yea burnout, I don't have a line lock but I roll them up until I get a good smoke off the tires and feather it out to the staging line. I'm going out Wednesday and try some different things at the track, launching, tunes and get some logs I hope.

Well I went back to see what the difference in air was and it was a Da of 1560 temp 63 when I ran the 12.64 and 2400 temp 71 with my 13.13. Is that worth that much loss. I was running 12.98-13.01 all through the summer last year and that was before headers, no cats, ls6 intake and mufflers were changed.

There is part of your problem. Mickey Thompson recoomends 11 - 16 PSI on the ET Street radial.

I have 275 40 17s and I started @ 18 hot and that was too high still. I assume you have the same size and I would start @ 15 psi hot and go down from there. They are a bit loose on the big end of the track. Do a good hard burn out on them on your 1st pass, and hustle to the lights after. I am not an A4 guy, but I know the MT ET St radials made a huge differance for me on my M12. Good luck!!!
Dave
PS Redgar,

Well I finaly made it back out to the track tonight. Tried everything I could think of and still running 13's. 4 out of 5 runs was 13.05 @ 107 60ft 1.95. I did have one run that came out 12.88 @ 108 same 60ft. When I hook up EFI live it stalls out with 8.5 deg. knock retard midway through 2nd. I'm lost. DA was high at 3800 tonight, track was sticky, no issues their. Why can't I run my mid 12's anymore? Anyone have problems with their NGK plugs going bad, I have had problems in other things so maybe I will try something else. Whats another choice for plugs is their?

maybe your a4 is wearing out? does the car itself feel any different?

how often do you drive the car? If you don't drive it often or baby it most of the time maybe you could use some carbon clean up with GM top engine cleaner or seafoam?

I had the A4 fully rebuilt last spring. Neal Chance Racing transmisions, vacuum controled 1-2 shift, heck I can't even remember what all was done but it was everthing. I don't drive it everyday but I never let up on it when I do drive, thats why I can't drive it everday It doesn't feel like it pulls as hard on the top end as it use to.

I don't give mail order tunes much credence, that may be your problem with the computer pulling timing.

Get it to a dyno and have it tuned.
