Default 1st 1/4 Track Results.....

Well, I don't know if I should be happy or not. I went to Fontana, CA speedway. All the runs except the ones at night were made in 92 degree heat. I checked on the website and the track is just under 1200 ft above sea level. The air was FILTHY dirty. My best pass was a 12.62 at 115.9 mph. This was on my 20" 305.25/20 conti's. This was also my first time at the track. I tried to do some burnouts but the car was crow hopping so bad I thought I was going to break something. I guess the 600lb coil overs didn't like the starts. I tried to slip the Excedy Duel but I couldnt do it. My best 60 foot time was 2.23. I wasn't expecting a great time but I thought the trap speeds would be higher with 400 rwhp. Can someone chime in that has run on this track? I was told it was a slow track. I raced my buddy in his 03 Viper that's putting out 520 rwhp and the best time he could come up with is 12.5's at a best trap of117.5 mph. I was happy he didn't smoke me but I expected better. Since I'm not a drag racer I thought someone could chime in and let me know if these times are good or bad.

Aside from the 60' timesthe times seem on par for your mods. Your trap times are more like a stock z06 would trap, and I'd say they reflect 350-360rwhp. But you also have more weight than a stock Z, and there may be other factors as well. Your friends viper is also trapping about 10mph too low, again, this leads me to believe that he has more like maybe 380rwhp, could just be the track, but I'm sure someone else can chime in here.

I know it's not the rwhp unless the car has lost a cylinder. I was standing there when Charlie tuned it on A&A's dyno. My buddy just got his viper out of West Coast Viper last Wednesday. He got video of it on the dyno. I don't know if elevation or heat had something to do with the low trap speeds but It definaltey should not be the rwhp. It dyno'd at 391 at L.A.P.D.'S DYNO so I know the power is there. The mighty M3's that everyone always bragg about were there. There fastest trap speed was 101 mph at 13.99.

It's the heat, temp might have been 92ish. But the motor might have been seeing 110+, it's that way here in Missouri anyway

It was hot as hell. I would make four runs and then park it for a for a half hour. When I would restart it the temps would still be at 180. Thats with the Meziere and 160 stat.

Mike,

Your doing great for the obviously crappy air (look at both yours and the Vipers low MPH vs HP) and a 2.23 60ft!

What's up Charlie. Well at least you can verify that the car is making the power I'm posting, since your the one who tuned it. The coil overs and tires suck for drag racing. Maybe an extra 200 rwhp will help me at the end of the track

Your MPH looks a little low to me.... I Dyno'd at 370 RWHP and trapped as high as 118 but ussually 117 on the dot. I do have 3:90 gears though... I am right at 400RWHP now but wont make it back to the track until Nov. and Im guessing I'll trap ~120
Just throwing this out there for comparison sake my mods are in my profile

I was at the track last friday and saw your car run.(Silver Z06 dumped on Iforged wheels)

Nice car by the way!!!

The track like you said is right at 1200ft above sealevel but it is very rare that the track ever has a DA of less than 2200' due to the heat.

Also there is almost always a 10mph head wind blowing straight down the track.

I didn't run this past week (Spiral Grey Magnacharged Coupe) but I ran about 3 months ago at a private track day.

Best pass with 440rwhp 430rwtq was a 11.80@120 (1.89 60ft) that was ran full weight with a half tank of gas on 17" ET streets.(I made a pas with a 1.71 60ft but the stock clutch dissapeared on the 1-2 shift so I didn't get my 11.5 pass)

On my stock bald runflats I was able to cut a 2.1860ft but the car would then get sideways until 3rd gear.I ran a 12.5@120 in street trim.(Sadly the car spins more at the track then it does on the street)

I hope to run low low 12's on my new 335/30/18 Pilot sports next time out.

If this was your first time to the track with that car I would be happy. There is no way your going to hook 400rwhp at that track running your 20" conti's and the weather is never great for high trap speeds.

Did you sign up for the next private track day?

No. When is it? I would love to go again. I'm going to try and run some drag radials, but I dont know if they fit because of how low the car is. Thanks for chiming in. With my rwhp, do you think my traps are low, or right for that track? Let me know how to sign up for the nexty one and I'll be there. Thanks.

If you dynoed 400rwhp with your current wheel/tire combo I would expect your trap speed to be a bit higher. You might get close to 117 +/- but your not going to run a 120+ like you could at Englishtown or HRP.

I am not sure If I am going to race yet as I can't afford to run out and replace the clutch after my recent ccw wheel purchase.I will be there and I am pretty sure we are going to have a barbecue over at the magnacharger/magnaflow booth.

You might check that sight as well I think the camera man liked your car and snapped a couple shots.

Thanks for the link brother. They definitley snapped some shots. Probably because they've never seen a moron bring a dumped car to the track. I'm one mph of on my trap. I'm hoping to run some drag radials to improve it. Thanks again for the links. I'm going to sign up for september. I saw a vette run that sounded like it had a mag, but it was only trapping at 111 mph, which I would think is way low. The car sounded mean going down the track. Was that guy with you?

The guy wasn't with us.

He was running RK sports old Magnacharger kit (Non intercooled)

I think I saw him run as fast as 114 but I could be wrong. The intercooler set up lets you run 2 more lbs of boost and usually makes around 50 more to the wheels.

If you still have the stock brakes on the rear I would try on a set of 17" Camaro/Firebird wheels and then order some 17" ET streets to go on them.

Your still going to be dissapointed in drag radials and they are harder on the clutch since you have to slip the clutch to get a good 60ft.

ET streets you rev it to 4K and get off the clutch.

Come on over and introduce your self next time out.(Spiral grey with a polished maggie sticking out of the hood)

My take is that under perfect conditions, your traps might be higher. The fact that your buddy with the Viper also had lower traps should indicate that conditions were affecting the power you were putting down. My car was tuned by Charlie @ A&A as well, with 415 to the wheels I also have trouble hooking up on a hard launch, but the 305/25/20's hook up much better than the stockers once under way.
