Default 28" MT tires

Anybody using these 28X11.50 MT ET streets? I'm thinking about moving up to these instead of my 26's to get more contact patch. I'm not for sure though on how it's going to affect my gearing. Like to know if anybody is using these and what gears they have. It would probably put my ration at about 3.73 or maybe 3.42 from my 3.90's.

26 divided by 28(new tire hight)=.929 x 3.90(gear ratio)=3.62 final drive ratio

These tires are typically too big for your hp/setup. If you go to 3.42's you may have a hard time spinning them. I would stick with the 26's.
Here are 3 alternatives that I am also considering:

1)M&T 26x11.5-16lt(the sectional width is 1" more than the etstreets)

2)M&T 26X12 (full drag tire not DOT approved)

3)MT et street radials in 16's.

I may pull the trigger on #2 and give you feedback.
My friend has #1 and feels they hook equal to the MT et streets with 2-3 more psi.
And #3 have been impressive.
Tough call. Any feedback will be appreciated.

Yeah, keep me informed. I like the 28's b/c than I would be able to keep it in 3rd gear during an 1/8th mile run. Plus, more contact patch wouldn't hurt. Guess I'll stick with the 26's for about a year or so and than see what to do. Might look into some Hoosier's if I'm unhappy with my ET Streets, although so far they have been an improvement.

4.10 DTE rear end - 26" ET's ran out of 3rd gear B4 1/4 mi. Switched to MT 12.5 X 28 X 16 and solved the problem. Brake tourqueing at 1600 rpm tires come up about 3" with a 60' of 1.45 or less and I go through the traps at 6650 rpm @ 142 mph in 3rd gear with the convertor locked with my current conservative setup! The net result of the 28" is 3.88 rear end effective!

Isn't a 28" tire more the size of my factory 295/35 18 rear I had? I had a 275/45 17" MT Drag Radial and it says it's equilavent to a 26X11.50X16. So, I'm trying to make sense of all this.......I had 3.42's stock with the 295 tire. I upgraded to a 3.90 but yet run a 26 so isn't that cutting my ratio down a little bit, so I really need a 28" to be an actual 3.90????

If I'm not mistaken the "stock" C5 Vette tires are all 26" tall (I think the sidewall makes up the difference in the different sizes).

Keep in mind Joe has 700+ rwhp. I think your car will suffer with 28" tires. I'm able to cut low 1.4x's on the 26's.

Thanks everyone for the info. Guess I'll just stick with the 26's and work on my launches. I would like to get into the 1.50 range or a little lower. I'm still spinning just a tad now, launching at 5K so I might lower it a little bit. Also, I talked with a guy and he was running 15psi in his ET Streets and was pulling a 1.40 something??? I've been running 12 but I may up it a little bit for this Friday.
