Default Aussie Cluth install review

I had Jeff Creech @ Carolina Auto Masters install a bunch of mods when I was back in NC last month. Great job and great support from some super guys! The tune is dead on perfect as allways too and Jeff is the man with LS1 edit. We had planned on going FI, but I loved the CAM (and tune) and new clutch so much we are staying NA... Back to the point and the new clutch:

I wish I took pics of it before the install as it looks awesome! Not a factor in choosing a clutch but some might want to know, sorry guys!

Pressure: Very close but slightly more than OEM LS6, and IMO maybe 10 to 15% more firm.

Release Point: Lower than OEM, but my clutch was worn, and less than 1/3 left. Maybe 80 to 100 passes on the track and 30k miles. It feels just right and there is no dead spot on top of the engagement either.

Release: It was grabby at first with very few miles, and very fast. After break in, and approx 200 miles, it is still fast, but not grabby at all and very smooth. The best part is how rapid it is and it does take some getting used to with how quick it is. For the street, no issues just takes a bit of getting used to. For the track, perfect!

Issues???? None! Has not stuck on the floor or got soft. I was hot lapping it at the track with lots of prep and it never got hot or had any issues. Right now it is dealing with 397 RWHP and had no issues at all, and there is more to follow on that. I was launching from 5k, 5.2k with a rapid release and it just hooked great! I did leave @ 6k and it was too much for the tires and I spun (looked cool from the stands me going up in smoke thru 1st not good for the ET, ummm 11.7 I think but it still did a 1.7 60 spinning )

Great support from the suppliers TEXTRALIA PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS "AUSSIE CLUTCH" and Andy http://www.aacorvette.com/ for the GP. Thanks all!

Dave

excellent write up. I've still had zero passes...but I've absolutely brutalized it on the street for 6 months. No issues.

Glad to hear it's absorbing high rpm launch activity and surviving.

Chief, Thanks for the write up, but do you mean the engagement happens fast? Or the engagement pedal distance is short? Or? Thanks, Chris

Chris,
Sorry I was not very precise with my wording. Hope this will clear it up. The distance from the floor the clutch enages is shorter than OEM, and the release is much quicker as far as the distance it travels for a full release.

It starts further to the floor than stock, and it releases (or engages which ever way you want to go) much faster and quicker than OEM. IMO it feals perfect.

I had read and heard Aussies do not need much break in and sure enough it is true. I would have liked another 2 or 300 miles on it stop and go but my time was out and I need to have some fun at the track. I am very impressed so far and next up is some CCWs and a HC. Hope this helps.

one thing that i noticed is that i had a spec stage 3 clutch which costs about $ 400 and lasted only 12,000 miles without slicks ever on the car i now have paid for the ausie clutch with billet flywheel which was $1180 i wish i would have never compared the two but there is absolutely no difference in the disc or the pressure plate other than one is yellow and one is blue the difference in price also includes flywheel some bolts and a slave but when you break it down you still pay $800 for a $400 clutch the same stamps are on the disc it was really depressing my other car i have bought an exidy twin disc which i paid $1523 which has a true billet flywheel a if it works as good as it looks i will be in good shape and will probably be swapping out the aussie

What stamps were the same? From pictures I would agree that it looks like a Spec 3 but don't see how it could from the different reviews on here.

Sorry I missed this but I am a crack head Too much trying to get to the track, buying more mods and gettign everythign for a HC swap in 2 weeks, plus, I had to go back to work grrrrrr

Mot sure what the HP rating is, but this might help:

OZ 700 info

I love this clutch and it gets better every day, or I get used to driving again lol. Feals great and very smooth, yet still very fast, and takes the track use with no issues at all, and clamps great!
