Default 02 LS1 Difference

I am new to the boards, so bear with me. What is the difference between my 02 LS1 and an 02 Z06 LS6 engine wise?? I am in need of more power. Does anyone know of a cam that I can run with a stock setup? The car is an auto. Does my car have a different intake than earlier vettes? Do these cars run better without the cats? With headers?A friend of mine told me my car has a better intake? It already has a Halltech cold air system on it. Any info would be great! Thanks.

The 02 Z06 has LS6 heads that breath better & provide a higher compression ratio than your LS1 heads. The Z06 also has a biggger cam than the LS1 engines.

From 01 up all LS1 engines have the same intake manifold as the LS6 engine.

Running without cats will give you from 8-10 RWHP more. The down side
is the bad smell you will get from your exhaust.

You can run the LS6 cam with the stock setup. However I would go with a bigger cam if I were going to the trouble of swapping cams.
Since you have an A4 you will get much better performance if you went with a higher stalling T/C(at lease 3000 stall) and gears.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the info, which cam would you suggest with a basically stock set up? Would the Z06 head and cam swap yield 405 bhp?

Assuming you don't already have a high stall T/C and upgraded gears. If I were you I would install a good high stall T/C and gears before installing a bigger cam. A T/C and gears will out perform a very mild cam with the stock T/C and gearing by a wide margin. Excluding NOS a high stall T/C and gears are the best bang for the buck mods you can install on an A4.

If I were going to swap cams I would go with one of the 224/224 or 224/228 cams. IMHO the Z06 cam does not give a big enough boost in performance to warrant the expense of installing it.

Can I just install the 224/224 without any other mods? Do ya'll have any idea what size gears are in my car?? Is there a sticker or plate that will tell me? Would it be more cost efficient to buy a used gear off of this site? I know the new ones are really expensive. Thanks

It would be a big mistake if you installed a 224/224 cam without other mods like a higher stalling T/C etc. Just installing a cam without the supporting mods to go along with it will not give you the performance you are looking for. Plus it could hurt your cars driveability. If you can't afford to install all of your mods at the same time, I would install them in this order. 1. High Stall T/C & Gears. 2. Long Tube Headers. 3. The cam of your choice.

Look at your glove compartment door, you should see a tag with the build codes on it. If you see G92 you have 3.15 gears if you don't see it you have 2.73 gears. You can also drive your car at a steady 75 MPH in 3rd gear. Look at your tachometer, if you are turning 3150 RPM you have 3.15 gears if you are turning 2730 RPM you have 2.73 gears.

You can check the C5 Parts for sale forum. You can sometimes pickup used 3.42 gears for about $500.00-$600.00. Or check with Forum sponsor Fred Beans, you can buy a new rear end for around $1000-$1100.
