Default I really need help with launch technique

Man! Since having the performance mods done, I just cannot keep this 2.73 geared A4 vette on the ground.

Anytime it backshifts at speeds below 45 mph, the back end starts to come right around on me. I might as well just forget it coming off the line, as it's all over the place. Even when I feather the throttle on launch, the minute I go full throttle, the tires break loose again. Can't get no good times that way.

Ok so I need better skins....the runflats are crap when it comes to traction. I have a pretty good idea what to get...but I'm afraid if I get TOO sticky, something back there will break.

What are the recommendations as to what I should have beefed up in the transaxle, before I take it to the strip and try to get some serious launches?

I'm not interested in changing the gears. I do have a Yank 3200 converter though and a shift kit, but everything else is stock back there. We're talking about less than but close to 400 rwhp.

What's the most likely thing to break first? Then the second most likely? And so on. So I can get to work on beefing them up.

Thanks for any info/ideas.

Would you rather get sticky tires and worry about breaking your trans, or worry about smacking into the wall or another car?

Ehhh? Let's back up here.

I need stickier tires...that's a given. What I also need is to know what the mosty likely thing is to break as a result of having stickier tires.....

....so I can take proper measures to have that remedied BEFORE I break something.

Is that clearer now?

He has a A4, no need for the DTE brace unless he's making crazy power. Also, VERY few A4's break output shafts.
Get some M/T Drags and call it a day. Just keep some $ on the side for a trans rebuild, it'll happen sooner than later with that much HP. While everything is apart, it couldn't hurt to have the rear done with a decent ratio and a hardend shaft.

I'd like to get it to a track once, just to see what it will do. But I do not really intend on "racing" it per se.

My problem is when I feel like showing off a little on the street or just want to get around someone.....if that thing backshifts, there goes the back end, the other way. THAT could be a disaster waiting to happen.

So the general opinion here is to not really do anything right now except get some better skins?.....and then figure that the tranny will give up the ghost first?...and not worry about that until it happens.

Right?

I see by your signature that your vette is kicking some serious butt! Do you still have the stock A4 in yours? If not, or if you have an opinion, who would you recommend rebuilding mine when it does go out?

Does DTE do this sort of work in the Midwest?

I know, I've been there with my C4 a few years ago. Just didn't know if you did that sort of work as well as your better known performance jobs.

PM sent for additional info.

Karl

I just put a set of 305/35/18 Nitto 555R on my Z06. I can now enjoy a majority of the power. I still get tire spin, but the car is very controllable.

talk to you soon

Yes Larry, I know the tires need to be upgraded....but is the rear end on your Z06 stock? And is it the same rear end (except for gear ratio) as what I have on my coupe?

Right now, it seems the A4 is my primary concern, while your Z06 is a stick.

My rear is upgraded.
As for the A4, it's a crap shoot. It may last a couple of passes, or a hundred at your power level. Just be prepared for the chance it may break.

stock rear...

anything can break, but I am not concerned.

The main breaking issue I feel is wheel hop and people not knowing how to lift.
