Default Am I expecting to much?

I finally got my car together after the flex plate exploded in early spring and made a few passes. While it was down I added a 224/228 581/588 112 cam. and a vararam. Last year I had a best of 12.37 @ 111 w/ 1.76 60ft yesterday was a 12.12 @ 115 w/ 1.75 60ft. just thought I should at least hit a high 11, another guy at the track in his Z runs 11.8's with just exhaust at like 120

Everyone kept saying wow that runs great but i just wasn't feeling it.

I know I need a bigger stall and heads, well I'm working on it. The budget and wife only allow so much so I buy the deals as they come. So feel pity and sell me some ported 98 heads cheap

Mods are: '98, Vararam, Carbon Fiber air bridge, LS6 intake, 224/228 581/588 112 cam, LT Headers, B&B route 66 exhaust, Dr. Gas off road X, Built A4, LS2 flex plate, Pro Torque 2400 stall, 3.73 gears, tuned with EFI live and edit

Don't get me wrong it is always fun

Looks like you gained 4MPH with the cam swap.... So I would say thats pretty good. It might take you a few more trips and a little tweeking of the shift points but I think 11's will come.

I agree, you're making more power, but your sixty foot times haven't improved. You need more seat time and maybe some chassis improvements, get that sixty foot down a tenth or two and you'll be deep into the 11's before you know it. What kind of gears do you have in the rear? Did you have the car tuned after the cam swap? You could be leaving some power on the table without a tune. James

I'm thinking i don't have enough converter to gain anymore on the 60ft times with that cam. not sure To bad the track is closed for the winter now. Trying to decide what to do with it over the winter. As for tuning I have done all of it myself so far. Ed wright is the closest tuner at 3 hours and I want to learn it myself.

I'd say you need a bigger stall converter or more gear. You're not hitting the sweet spot of your new cam off the line so the car isn't accelerating as hard as it should. The mph shows you've definitely made some good gains but you're probably getting most of it after the 330ft mark. Compare your times and mph from your previous runs before the cam change to your new timeslips after the new cam install at the different distances. That should give you a pretty good idea where the car needs help and then you can decide which way to go.
