Looking for advice for adding a turbo to my 1999 C5. Only modification to this automatic car is the Corsa exhaust with crossover.
This is a daily driver car for me living in Texas. I commute in the country to work and back 60 miles a day round trip. I want to keep the car dependable for short and long trips but add better response when passing on the highway...or when challenged by a Saleen and such! lol
What turbo kit would you recommend and is this something I can do myself in the shop? I am not a professional engine builder, but have built a couple of performance cars for myself (1968 California Special Mustang and a 1932 Ford Highboy with a big block Chevy).
Well, you will be best served by doing a thorough search on the forced induction forums here, as most any question you could possibly ask has probably been answered already.
There are a few great kits available that will all suit your needs if the car sees the street primarily, and a couple that may(as of this time) be better suited to huge power numbers and more specific track use.
Some of the available kits, like the APS TT setup, have not been pushed very far yet, so it is difficult to say just how far the base turbos will take you.
For good street response and driveability, I think most of the kits will work just fine.
You have to decide if you want a top-mount, bottom-mount, or rear-mounted system.
It will depend on your preference for visibility(i.e.: can you see the components when you pop the hood) or stealth(some of the kits can only be seen best from underneath the car).
I think all of the kits can be installed by a reasonably handy person in the garage, but are best done on a lift, if available.

Here you go, 640 whp from a bone stock C5 ZO6 engine at just 9 PSI on 93 octane, with a forged/built engine 800/800 rwhp/rwtq should be a no brainer.
Go They engineeered every piece of that kit specifically for the C5
THANKS!!! I am going to look seriously at the APS system. My C5 is not a Z06...just the plain old 345hp stock engine. What gain can I expect on that motor with the APS system added?

On a bone stock C5 LS1 engine I'd expect around 550 whp on 93 octane fuel with a thorough dyno tune.

Also, the C5 intercooled twin turbo systems will start shipping to the US in approx 15 days time....................a perfect Xmas present to your self.
