Hey guys I'm a current F-body Owner who is considering making the swap. My question is how much power is needed for a FRC or a Targa top with a T-56 six speed to get to 11's. Without NO2...what is the easiest way to get there. I'm so tired of these little STI's running their mouth and ready to do something.
you can go alot of different ways... a good size cam would get you close like g5x3.. of course with longtubes and tune.. also will need a new clutch... if you plan on launching it hard id get a new half shaft installed.. id figure you could get in the 11's easilly with 400-420rwhp...
total cost figure around 5-7k.
just my .02
I'm thinking I'll probably need atleast LT's,x-pipe,decent catback, little bit of DIY headwork (rockers) and I should almost be there if I can figure out how to drive an IRS like I can my solid-axle firebird. God these cars are fast.
LOL yeah a clutch will probably be needed...I hate clutch jobs...everything is so damn heavy and awkward, Most of this work I can do myself so I'm hoping I can save a bunch of money thadaway.
What it takes to run 11s is as much a matter of driving skill as horsepower. So the best investment is improving driver technique.
A good driver with some practice can put a stock 2002+ Z06 (350-360 rwhp) into the 11s on drag radials. It's harder to do on the stock tires but several have done it.
My 99 FRC had Kooks LTs, Cartek clutch, 4.10s, X-pipe, no cats, cat back, CAI, LS6 intake, and on a set of Dr's ran a 11.90 @ 117.6mph. That was on a weak 1.74 60ft.
That same car on street tires, I could only get a 12.2 @ 115.Xmph.
It dyno'd 327 at the wheels.
The level of mods will depend I guess on what tires you want to run that 11 on.
I can't believe the name has escaped me for the moment but theres a gentleman on ls1tech and here i believe thats ran 10.9's with his FRC M6 with less then 400rwhp and no nitrous. He is my hero just so we all know well and RANGER LOL!
You can go 11's on a stock Z06 with good conditions and some seat time. When I first took mine to the track I made 8 passes and started with a 12.4 on a easy launch and ended up breaking into the 11's with only a 114 trap speed. I did have Nitto drag radials though.
Thanks for all the input guys. I have all those major bolt-ons on my LT1 f-body (profile pic) but without major suspension and internal engine work I will NEVER be able to break 11's with a streetable car. This just further sets things in place for the car to continue to go up for sale and start saving money...You guys look out for me in about 6 months, I'll be buying. In the meantime I'll just have to chill in my truck...

Your times sound like what I'd like to be able to do. I have basicly the same car, but with a mild cam. Do you think mine has similar potential?
