Default another 'guess my HP' thread

Looking for 460. Figured that would be good for a solid 11.xx quarter mile. Just trying to match the new Z06 and then a little.

Putting together a new engine for the Vette. Curious what the average person here is putting out with a similar combo? I'm looking for 460 rwhp.

Livernois stg 2 heads
Fast 90/LS2 TB
226/230 114 LSA cam
SW 1 3/4 LT headers
random tech cats and X pipe
corsa indy exhaust
stock 346 bottom end with katech rod bolts
remaining supporting bolt ons (pulley, intake, etc...)

I dont really want to go any more aggressive on the cam since I'm looking to keep good driving manners, and minimize MPG losses. I am trying to stay over 30 MPG. I'm planning on swapping the gears for some 3.90's as well as other related upgrades, and I'm also considering shaft mount rocker arms in the future.

I ditched the LS6 intake/ported TB idea.

I don't think the cam is large eough to make 460 RWHP either. My guess is between 430 and 440 RWHP.

Also doubtful that you'll get 460 out of it. I have a slightly smaller cam 224/228 with AFR 205's longtubes no cats, intake, ud pulley, and only got 435/400.

Who are you having do the install?

When are you getting back from Iraq and where at? I just left Kirkuk not too long ago...

You will pick up around 35hp. You probably don't need the big throttle body either. You should dyno the car with the old TB and the new TB. Forget about shaft mount rockers on a mild set up like yours. They are more weight on the valve train.

I get back in 3 months, hopefully. I might fall under that 3 month extension thing, I dont know yet. I go back to Fort Hood, then on leave to FL and immediately report to Fort Stewart, GA.

If you guys have cam reccomendations for me that wont kill off my mileage, feed me! I'd love to use a MS3 or something of the sort but I dont want to kick my powerband too far up the chain either. I'm open to reccomendations. I could live with top 20's as far as MPG goes.

Rockers were more for durability and reliability than anything. It's nothing I will be doing any time soon.

I'm doing the install myself. I'm having a buddy of mine oversee things while I put the engine in since it's my first hi-po build on an LS1 and into a C5. He's the foreman at the Chevy dealership I used to wrench at.

The gears will be professional. I will give NLP a shot at it since they are the ones who have tuned the car from the gitgo and I will be getting a dynotune anyway.

Any chance have you seen the threads about Vengenance Racing's H/C and cam only swaps? They have been making some insane #'s with their "cusom grind" cam. Not sure the specs, but give them a call and see what he says. Personally, I'd ditch the fast 90/ls2 tb and put that $1K into a better set of heads... AFR's or Trick Flows and get a bigger cam. At least 23x/23x duration. If you ever get down to Panama City you can check out my Z with a 224/228 114LSA, AFR 205's, LG longtubes no cats, ud pulley, halltech trap, borla stingers. Makes 435/400rw I get around 24-27 mpg highway @ 90ish mph

Peak power doesn't always get you down the track the fastest. Increasing area "under the curve" can do wonders for performance and yet leave you with a very drivable, reliable, high mpg, very fast, machine. A smaller cam (the right one), with the proper complementing accessories, can help do this for you. Bigger is not always better. Good luck to you!
