I've been running on Nitto's R2 for over a year and love these tires. The do a very nice job of holding my currect power levels, once they are warm or hot.
Today I found my rear tire flat. After careful review, their is a 1 1/2 inch gash on the inside part of the tread and to close to the side wall- S__t.... I've placed my old F-1 on the rear and ordered a replacement.
The question is I have about 1/2 tread (5000 miles) left on the other one. Will replacing the new tire with the older one cause any issues- used at the limit, running hard or for a 1/4 run. I've noticed that the Nitto's now have abit more grip than when new? I really don't want to buy two tires but would like to know what are the posibilities. I put down 600rwhp.
I would prob buy 2 new ones and try to sell the used one thats on the car now, with them being on the rear you should not have any dirveability issues with putting the new one on with the old one but one will grip better for the time being. I have heard a lot of stories about nitto's losing SOME their ability to grip once the tread starts to wear off. Good luck
I only have 500rwhp and use the Nitto R2 size 305/35-18 for daily driving and the traction is only marginal. I can’t imagine what kind of traction you get at the track, but Nittos just doesn’t do it at the track. Mickey Thompson is coming out with a new drag radial in something like 345/30-18. You may want to check into these if you really want some good traction. But then the age-old problem of cost vs. miles comes into play. Never a simple answer.
