What drag radial tire will be best for me? I have a pair of Nittos 555r's (275/40/17) mounted on 17 x 9 C6 wheels. Also have a pair of BFG Gforce TA drag radials (315/30/18) mounted on 18 x 10.5 wheels. Looks like the TA's are a bit shorter in a side by side comparison. My best to date is a 12.87 with 1.89 on street tires.
Specs on my are are as follows:
2000 FRC MN6
stock clutch & rear
Kooks headers and cat X pipe
VaraRam intake
My older car (stang) had better luck on the BFG drag radials. Most people i knew at the time did too. Nitto is great for everyday mounted use from my experience. If you have a spare set go with the BFG's or even the MT radials. That is a nasty tire!
Only one way to know for sure is to test them both. But it's likely the BFGs will perform better.
Both tires will need heat from a burnout for the 60' and 330' to beat stock street tires. There's a burnout procedure and launch tips at links in my signature.
The Nittos need a very long burnout because their tread compound is harder than the BFGs. Suggest psi for both at 18.
My BFG 295/35-18's on 10.5 rims have worked very good for me. I will be putting headers back on soon and will see if they can work as well as the ET Street Bias Plys worked.
Suggest caution in selecting the MT 18". Watch the tire height. Also the R2 compound is very sticky. The bigger the contact patch is the tougher the job for the clutch.
