Default Need some track help.

Hope everyone is having a great day !

I have a 1999 C5 with a MTI built 383 Stroker coupled with 175 shot of Nitrous. The Dyno run last week produced 733 BHP with 601 RWHP (Stage 2 Auto Tranny).

I have never been to the track but the previous owner has been, (without having the Nitrous). His best time was an 11.4 on the 1/4 mile w/ drag radials on just the motor. I will be interested to see what kind of times I can get with the 175 shot.

The Nitrous is set to a button on the dash along with a window switch of 3000 RPM's shutting off at 6500 RPM's. I've sprayed it a few times while out and about in the attempt to get used to the immediate power and so far I am adapting well and the car runs incredibly strong. However, I have only used the juice from roughly a 30 roll or so which of course makes it a bit easier to control the *** end of the car from getting crazy.

My question is rather simple:
Does anyone have a similar set up on their C5 and if so how in the hell do you use the Nitrous from a stand still a the track without smoking the tires for half of the 1/4 mile run?
Is there a proven method that works as far as when to flip the NOS switch without wasting too much time getting up to the speed in which the tires won't spin which of course is doing nothing but costing me time moving down the lane?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks - Jeremy

With that amount of power your gonna need some serious sunspension tweaking to get it to stick off the line.

You could have the nitrous system set to only fire in second and third gear to help you out.

I am running a 383 with a simular setup, but putting out only 558/510 on a Mustang dyno. The timing tuner is set to come on at 3200 rpm with a .6 second delay - nitrous shut off is at 6700 rpm and the rev limiter is at 7000 rpm.

With the nitrous activated I can only launch at between 3000/3500 rpm, this makes for only fair 60' times 1.7x to 1.8x. If I get more agressive than that traction suffers big time and so does the ET. I intend to lower the set point to 2800 rpm this week end and play around with the launch rpm.

I only have approximately 18 passes with the 383 nitrous setup, so still in the learning process - high 10.xx to low 11.xx presently. We'll see if I can improve on this Saturday.

Each car is somewhat different (motor, suspension, ect) so you just need to hit the track and start off with a conservative setup and go from there. Best of luck with your 383 nitrous car - and kick some *** while your at it!

Default Thanks

Guys,

Thanks for the help. It will be interesting to see how things go at the track as I am a track virgin thus far. It may be a good idea to do a few passes without the nitrous just to get the hang of things before adding the juice to the mix.

I should be heading to the track within the next two weeks. I'll post up the results. Aiming for mid 10's........

BTW, what size shot are you using with your 383?

Thx, - Jeremy

It's a ZEX direct port 175 shot (FW rated). The cars going through the traps at 133/134 MPH so the HP is there, just need to get the 60' down into the 1.6x or better.

Getting into the mid 10.xx range isn't as easy as you may think....being a track virgin won't help either. Of course the A4 will help make it easier... just stab and steer... us M6 and M12 guys have to work a little harder at it.
