But NO I don't shift it, I let the controler do that... Too much of a chance to hit the rev limiter.

for controlling/ governing wheelspin on the street, i manual shift.
At the track, i leave it in 3rd, then manually put into 4th ( my car's setup - w/ nitous and big converter ).
As everyone has mentioned, leaving it in D will give you the best results.
