Sitting here watching snow falling, and waiting for spring to come wondering if changing from the 3.15's to 3.42's with an automatic is it possible to break into 12's? Made the change, but have not had decent enough weather to give it a try.
Gear will help but what would really wake it up is a converter. Did several mods on my son's fbody and the converter was without a doubt the best performance bang for the buck. SOP and actual ET improvements were great, .35/.40 in the 1/8th. You don't have to use something real loose to still get good results, his (3400/2.1) drives pretty much like stock except from a dead stop.

Thank you for the great advice. Sounds like the way to go.
A good tune can help the tranny a bunch as well, but the question in my mind is, are you using street tires or Drag radials?
Good point, forgot that litte tid-bit of information. Probably need DRs to run the stall. It's amazing how much harder the car leaves. You probably couldn't hook it up on hard tires.
Robert, I have a 2000 that had 3;15 gears in it when i took to the track this past summer, after 3 runs on runflats and a 2.0 60 ft time, mine ran 12.98 and spun about 3ft. i just installed 3;73s in mine and a ls6 intake and new tune and im thinking, hoping ill get into the mid 12.s with a 1.90 60ft
So i think if you dont spin and you can get a 2.0 60ft , IF your car is tuned, (you didnt say it was or not) then yep itll run 12.9 something
Good luck.
Terry

I ran 12.89 with just a halltech stinger and a tune w/3.15's, a good launch and a good tune.
i ran a 13.10 at 105 in a 2000 vette vert, absolutely no mods whatsoever except for a drop in k&n filter. spun a little and had it in overdrive leaving at 1500 on a bald street tire. then i bolted up bb bullets and raced a 12.80 subaru sti on the TRACK and won by a bumper. now i ordered the vararam and smooth coupler and a 150 shot, im expecting to be in the high 11's with those three mods. mid 11's if i decide to do a converter.
Come on, you know better,
Clayton from Las Vegas
