Well since this is my very first post, I'll start by introducing myself: my name is Nic and I'm a Marine stationed in Sierra Vista, AZ. I bought my '01 A4 coupe back in November and so far I love it. It's showroom stock (for now ) I went to the track for the first time ever last Friday (SIR in Tucson), and I don't know what to think of the numbers. I got about 7 runs in, the best being my second with a 13.84 @ 101.36, 2.123 60ft. That was a "one foot" start. My worst being my last with a 14.10 @ 100.22, 2.154 60ft, stalling up to about 1700. I was kind of expecting more.... I was thinking the altitude had a lot to do with it (3500) or maybe the car was just getting hot and tired. I didn't have any traction issues and every time I just put it in 3rd and let the car shift itself. Should I try shifting myself? Maybe a little sooner? Seems like it likes to be shifted before redline. Anyhoo, I definately had fun and will be back for the next TNT. Thanks for any advice.
Congrats on getting out to play,, yep 3500 ft, will put a hurting on your times, but just think, where can you drive your car flat out and not get a ticket
Are you going in the water box or are you going around it...with stock tires I would go around and just clean the tires off.. 1700 should work with the stock setup, you might try and lower the tire pressure a little to see if that helps witht he 60' time.. Also try and keep your temps down between rounds..
Sounds about right for it being auto and altitude. Come up here to Abq we are at 5600ft and see what you get. Or head up to Colorado where it's even higher.
Yeah, I'm originally from Colorado Springs so I'm very familiar with altitude=hp loss. I was still expecting more though. I did roll around the water box and clean off my tires, and traction seemed to be fine. I didn't really let the car cool very well between runs though. The ambient temperature was cooling off and the car seemed fine so I just kept doing laps.
