Default Can any one in here answer this?

I replaced my 383 with a 416 in my 02 Z06. I have been able to do some WOT tuning now that I have 500 miles on it. The clutch is going so the car won't speed shift so I can't go to the track. I don't have time to get to the dyno and I dial in my AFR on the street any way, so the "go to the track or dyno comment is out". Here is the deal.

I tune in third gear from 2,500rpm to 6,700rpm or 40mph to 102mph. The 383 (490/445 rw) coverd that mph or rpm range, however you want to look at it, in an average of 6.225 seconds over six runs. The new motor, while not fully tuned yet, is covering the same rpm/mph range in 5.4 seconds average over six runs. So the new motor is .822 tenths of a second faster. Is there any way that translates out to power or 1/4 mph?

Pretty random question and more for giggles than anything. But there has to be a time to distance vs. weight formula that will balpark my gains. The 383 ran 10.8's@130 with 478/435rw. I am trying to get 9's@137 out of the new motor.

you sound like a friend of mine who lives in port orange fl. he would always do 0-80 runs whe tweaking his cars...take an average of 6 and you would know if the tweak works or now.

i would say pull out some old time slips and look at what you trapped in the 1/8 mile...and if you "know/remember" the gear and rpm you were at this is probably your best way to transilate the new times into e.t.

either way i would say you have a very fast car...did you buildup the driveline when you added the 100+ hp?

Thanks. Like I said, this is mostly for giggles and to see if there is really a formula out there. I did reinforce the drive line a long time ago when I had a Procharger making 630rw. I have kind of been working my way backwords on this car power wise. I have a T56 Rebuilds M12 that had every thing but straight cut gears done to it. And a hardend out put shaft in the stock Z carrier.

I would try comparing some of my old 1/4 runs but there is no traction with this car so the test would be wide open to interpratation. That and my clutch is acting up right now. That is why I use 3rd gear and start at 2,500. No tire spin gives me pretty accurate results. Most of the time I will get three runs in on the same land on the same drive and all will be with in a tenth.

I'm not sure if this would work but you could pull out your fastest timeslip and do a pull from the 1/8th mph to the 1/4 mph and see how much it picks up from your fastest ET with the 383 compared to the new 416 setup.

No formula is going to figure that out. I'd say the new motor is making approx 70rwhp more by the buttometer. Now fix the clutch and giver hell at the track!

Don't worry guys, I am going to get to the dyno and track. That is what I do. And believe me, I give it hell. I won't be expecting great times since it is 100* around here right now but it will give a ball park number. I just don't want to waste my time and money with a bad clutch.

The 383 runs were in the 50* range where as the 416 runs have been in the high 80's to 100* range. Yesterday it was 100* and humid and the DA was +3,000ft and it still clicked off consistant 5.7 sec times. I am getting a Tex twin in a couple of weeks so that should hold the motor and the future spray. If this thing makes 70rw over the 383 I will be exstatic. It possibly could though. I am running the same cam, and intake as before but now I have .2 more compression, 33 more cubes, larger headers with no catts, YT RR's, and the heads flow 40cfm more from .200-.600 lift on the intake and exhaust. I have a solid roller up my sleve also if I don't get the numbers I am looking for. Thanks for the imput on an impossible question.
