In the real world, most people aren't pro drivers so the car has a better chance of winning on it's own. That's why most 'non-track' races occur with a rolling start to take 'driver error' out of the equation. The pullied GT500 will walk him, no doubt.

Lets not forget that the GT500 weighs in approx. 1000 lbs fatter than than most Vettes. My friends GT500 weighs about 4350 with him in it. Although he does have the Whipple 3.4 and a roll cage.

I'm not a pro driver but I'll still take skill over more power anyday. I believe most people do not take enough time with the driver mod. Learning to drive any of the cars greatly enhances their performance and increases satisfaction. I see many high HP cars run non impressive times.

The GT 500 is [U]not[U] pullied, he has done the CAI, mufflers and pcm reflash (KR package).

You guys are right though....driver skills over hp will most likely determine the winner of this race. That's why I think I have a chance, I taped a few of his races early last spring at the track (didn't buy the Z til Oct.) for him before his upgrades and rear gear change. His best was a very traction limited 13.40...most were in the .50's and one in the .60's. Now with the extra hp and the torque of the 3.73's I'm thinking he's hurt himself as a rookie (62 yo) driver. I'm hoping to beat him by .50-.75. Of course RT will help!!!

I think you'll win, and even if you lose you have a Corvette and he has a mustang so you will win either way............

Personally I'd say if you can practice until you are consistant to a tenth of a sec. then I don't think you have a thing to worry about.

His car is too heavy and can't hook. I think a stock coupe A4 could take him.

A stock A4 would have to tree him really good, and you would have to have a pretty bad driver in the GT500. A Stock GT500 cannot touch a stock C5Z, end of story. Even with bolt-ons, and stock pulley, my money is still on the Z. My father has a GT500 that's stock, and he still thinks his car is faster than mine with full bolt-ons. If my car was an auto I know I would take him, but it's a 6 speed. We are having a grudge race at Atco this spring, so if anyone wants to come see you are more than welcome. I am most likely going to be trying to beat him with a botched second gear synchro. I'll still hopefully be able to click off some high 12's on street tires with a decent launch.

Thanks for the encouragement guys! That's what I tell him all the time "At least I'm not driving a Ford"

I plan to get some practice in before we race. I want to spank that GT500 sooooooo bad

slowtealz28- good luck with the grudge race with your dad. Remember he is your dad so just make sure you don't

Close enough that it'll be a drivers race.

I would invest in a bottle. Usually a Corvette can take down a cobra with about 100 more hp than it... but 540 compared to maybe 380 .... 150 shot and you will have no problem, if it is worth the bragging rights.

I purchased a 2004 Z06/Z16 with 5500 miles this past Oct. She's cherry
and never fails to put a smile on my face when I'm behind the wheel. It's stock except for the CAI stock/zip tie mod. I'm contemplating bolt on mods for early spring 2009.
A friend of mine at work purchased a new 2008 GT 500 Shelby, we have agreed to a best 3 out of 5 race this spring for $100 and bragging rights at work. Since we made this "friendly" wager he has upgraded his GT 500 to KR status via Ford's SVT CAI, mufflers and a canned tune which puts him at an astounding 540 HP. Along with that he changed his rear gear from 3.42 to a 3.73 He's spent $2,000 to win $100. I'm hoping these changes in HP along with the bottom end from the 3.73 will actually "Hurt" his chances. When his motor was stock with a mere 500hp I filmed him at the dragstrip and he couldn't come close to hooking up on the stock tires (plus a newbie at racing). I haven't raced the Z yet but I'm planning on multiple trips to the strip for practice before our grudge race next spring.
Any guesses on the outcome? Even though he has approx 135hp more
along with about an extra 800#) I'm hoping the Z will out do that Cobra.
Sorry for such a long first post, just nerves and excitement I
guess!
Jim
you better hope he didnt decide to get some new tires too since he is that willing to beat you. honestly i hope you enjoy being 100 dollars less rich

Have you seen the thread about the Raptor dual mode launch/shift light? It might make getting the launch a little easier.http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-f...-ky-speed.html
