Default What will ~I~ run?!?!?

Ok folks! The racing season is up and going. I have a friend with a 2003 Cobra with a solid axle, tubular K member, stock blower, 2.76 pully, and a 100 shot of nitrous all tuned by himself and suspension work. He just took it to the track Friday night and ran a 11.21 on blower and a 10.76 on the 100 shot. His A/F was 9.8 to a 10.2 on spray because he didnt hae the right fuel jet for the spray so he left it rich.

NOW!!! In comes my car and what and what all I have done to it. Take a peep at these mods and tell me what you guys think I will run and if its even worth chasing him. I will probably be on ET streets or MT Drag radials on wagon wheels. LOL Here is a list of my mods:

Cartek Stage 4X heads. Includes, full porting heads intake, exhaust, and combustion
chamber, Manley sever duty stainless valves, 2.02 intake, 1.57 exhasut, seals, Manley dual springs, spring seats, seals, titanium retainers, milled .030, cleaned and assembled.

Custom grind Cartek Stage 2X Cam computer verified. 228/232 582-598 116 LSA

Cromoly hardened push rods.

Cometic heavy duty head gaskets.

ASP under drive pulley with belts.

Roll master dual roller timing chain.

Ported Z06 oil pump setup for the roll master.

FAST 3 piece intake manifold ported with a 90MM throttle opening. Ported to stage 4X

Ported LS2 throttle body.

ECU Reprogram 97-2004 LS1 full dyno tune.

Notch piston for clearance.

Complete NX system installed includes, NX wet kit with 10# bottle, purge, MSD digital RPM window switch, timing retard module, custom switch panel with micro switches and LED lights, all wires, Bosch relays, and labor to install. Also includes, blow down tube, full throttle switch, Kenny Bell Boostapump, and NGK TR6 spark plugs.

Nano kit.

4.10 gears.

C5 passenger and driver side 300M out put shaft with side gear.

Hardened out put shaft.

C5 line lock kit includes pre-bent line with braided flex hose, inline line lock solenoid, and switch installed.

Vararam intake

Vararam Powerduct and MAF relocater

B&M Ripper shifter

GM Racing spark plug wires

160* thermostat

New Coolant crossover

Now the car is currently at Lethal Performance getting the current mods:

American Racing Headers 1 7/8" primary headers with 3" collector

American Racing 3" Off Road X pipe

Built tranny to withstand 800 rwhp

Spec Stage III Clutch and flywheel

New Slave cylinder

New Master cylinder

NA and Nitrous Dyno tune

It sounds like you'll be running a stout package. That 10.76 the Cobra is running should be no problem for you.The only possible draw back I see is in the 4.11 gear.I assume that your nitrous hit will be 150 or more, and with that kind of power traction will be at a premium so that 4.11 gear will not help you at all. Also, the revs will come at you so quickly with the nitrous and the 4.11 gear that hitting your shift points will be inconsistent.I personally run a 3.42 gear due to my nitrous set up...in my opinion 4.11 gears are good for NA applications but not for cars with power adders.

Well im thinking that since I have 4.10 gears I may just put a 1st gear lock out micro switch on my nitrous system. But then again... im not sure what its going to be like so I may just wait. I havent run it at the track NA since the new set up.

Anyone else? Im open to all ideas, suggestions and any constructive criticism. Where is Kurt, Blu, Fartpipe and so on? LOL

Sounds like alot of fun.
It will take a few track days to iron out the setup. You should do that before you race your buddy.
As mentioned above nitrous and the gears sounds like alot to master. I would get it dialed in n/a first.
...and no trans is bulletproof.

Its definetly going to take me a few passes NA to get back into it. I havent raced in almost two years because of deployments and overseas work. I think once I get it dialed in NA then I will be good to go with the nitrous passes. Does anyone have any suspension upgrade thoughts such as adjustable shocks or should the stock stuff get it done? He is pulling 1.5 short times on ET Drags.

Also, Robz. The good thing about the tranny being built by Lethal is that they gave me a 1 year warranty with it. I told them I would be racing it and Danny (the owner) just shruged his shoulders and said thats fine. So Im hoping it performes well but if not then I have my basis covered.

Cool about the trans.
I personally think that the stock suspension is all you need. You may want to just lower it some, maintain a positive rake, and get a more straightup alignment than stock.
It should be alot of fun figuring out the car.

As stated by Rob and Dave, the 4.10 gears may be a little too steep depending on your tire selection and rev limiter. You may wish to crunch a few numbers.
Good luck.

HAHA! Thanks guys! My rev limiter is 7000 rpms. The tires are 11.5X 26 if I run ET Streets. Im not sure how tall the MT Drag radials. I guess there is no way I can fit 28" slicks from what I have read so I may go through the traps in 5th. LOL What do you guys think I can pull out of it NA?

I can't tell how big your nitrous shot is, but the rest of the mods you listed are a BIG package. With a nitrous kick too, you should be able to run with the Cobra. But the M/T DRs will probably not hold your hp on launch. I'm only running 509rwhp/466rwtq and I have to keep my fuel level nearly full to keep enough weight on the tires to get them to hook up. I've also removed my front sway bar - which believe it or not, knocked off a full tenth! I'm also running QA1 adjustable front shocks and have them dialed down to the zero setting, which means they extend fully with no resistance at all. My front end lifts about 8 inches or more, but my rear end squats nearly until the fender well scrubs. My best 60' time is only 1.61. I'm working on Weld front skinnies now to knock off about 50 pounds from the front - more to come later.

Good luck. Have fun. Be safe.

My car made 454 on motor just Thursday (on a dynojet that puts out the same numbers as a Mustang dyno down the street) and 538 on a 100 shot. Thats all they felt comfortable with on the stock block. Im supposed to be running 26X11.5X16 ET streets but the other one has yet to show up in the mail and im fighting to get it as we speak. Im going to see how far I can get the car with the stock suspension before I try anything else I believe. Can you shoot me some part numbers on the Weld Front runners when you get them. I looked all over for them and couldnt find anything that would cover my stock brakes. Thanks!

Greg Weld died last year, so as I understand it, the heirs are trying to make a deal to sell all or part of the business and the deal is having some trouble. Doing internet searches you'll find Greg Weld Competition Wheels (the last business he started), but the website home page has been taken down. If you get to some of the other pages on that site which still are up, and go to the contact page and call the phone numbers, they won't go through. Call Jim's Racing Equipment in Baltimore at 800-281-0409. Apparently, he can still reach whoever is running the company and can still get wheels from them, although there's a long delay. I just missed the last set he had and now it's going to be 2-3 weeks before he gets another shipment. I don't know what part number he uses, but they're Greg Weld DragStar 17x4.5 w/ 5x4.75 bolt pattern, polished aluminum, $199 EACH. Supposedly, they will clear the rotors and calipers without a spacer, but I'll let you know when I get them and put them on. I can only find three tires that will fit this wheel. Hoosier has a radial, but it's the heaviest of the three at 22 pounds. M&H has a bias (the lightest of the three at 11 pounds) and a radial (18 pounds). Since I'm running M/T radials in back, I'm going with the M&H 185/55R17 DOT certified, $155 EACH.

Just FYI, you'll also find Weld Racing and Weld Motorsports - two other companies also started by Greg, but which are NOT the same company as Greg Weld Competition Wheels. Weld Motorsports also sells two 17x4.5 fronts called the Alumastar 2.0 and Magnum PRO. These can be found on Summit and other websites, but they are about $570 EACH.

You'll also find that CCW and Bogart can make custom wheels this size for you, but they are also extremely expensive.

Thanks for the info, man! I looked into the CCW drag pack but I have just spent $6000 on my car in the past two months and with a little girl on the way in less than two months I need to start thinking of her.

I will look into the Greg Weld Comp Wheels. Shoot me a PM or just post up here and let me know how they fit. Thanks, man!

The car is just a fun fair weather car for me that im going to race from time to time. I dont really care to put an auto in it unless I pick up a C6Z06 LOL. Im hoping for 10's on motor and mid to low on spray but I really have to learn how the spray is gonna work with the gears.
