Just wondering if anyone here has a LS1 with about 12:1cr on 346 or 383ci. My next motor setup will be running about 12:1cr so Im curious what to expect. Thnx.
I'm running 11.2 in my forged 382 and always run 92+
I think in the future, provided alternate fuels like E85 become big, we'll have a lot of fun with higher CR's.
Fuels that burn much cooler offer a lot of interesting potential.
Scott
I ran a Ls1 stock bottom end, about the same as Scotts, 11.2 to 11.4 can't remember which but I used 93.. I would think 12.1 would require about 98 octane give or take. Not sure a none forged bottom end would handle that..
i am at 11:6 now and run 93....if i get very bad gas every now and then i can hear a tick...so its important to have a few gallons of gt unleaded 110 at home...that way you can toss in a half a gallon and eliminate the issue and still go out and play when the air temp is in the 90's.
also dont ever run your tank down...if you have decent 93 and have 4 gallons left and add 4 gallons of what is supposed to be 93 and its not...as i said above it wont take much of gt unleaded to eliminate any issues or problems.
Thnx guys. I thought about that I"ll probably run a little race fuel in with the pump gas to keep it happy. Im sure the bottom end will take it, especially since I'll be running forged pistons... I hope.
I personally run my car with 93octane with 11.8:1 compression on my 410ci motor with luckily no issues at this time. Alot will have to do with tuner and fuel available. I usually make sure I hit a Shell, BP,Mobil, or Sunoco gas station. Quench plays a decent part in how compression effects things aswell. Proper quench will help things alot IMO. I do have a forged bottom end aswell though.
I have 11.8 or 11.9-1 CR in my 427. And i CAN use 91 octane, but i always go to a gas station that sells 93 octane. If im gonna be playin', I add a bottle of 104+ octane booster to a full tank of fuel(for safety). I put 87 octane in it once(wasn t paying attention) and could hear slight pinging and went to the Auto Zone and bought a bottle of 104+ and it was fine.
Yeah, with a good tune I should be able to drive aound with pump gas. Since there's a 76 station with 110 octane near me, why not get in a gallon or two to be safe?
You guys with near 12:1cr, even though youre bigger cubes, how does the response feel on the motor? Anyone out there with a 12:1 LS1/6 stock cubes?
91 is all they offer at the pump, but a bunch of Union 76 stations here offer 100, 102, and 105.
PLus Cosby Oil in Santa Fe Springs offers a variety of high octane race fuels, leaded and unleaded, if you dont mind going out there. They make Sunoco fuel I believe.
Interesting. I don't think I'd need anything more than 91 for my applications since I have stock compression. But I'm thinking about going with a procharger and then I'll have 2 tunes... 91 and 100.
