Default what do i need for a cam????

I was thinking about dropping a cam in my 2001 Z06. What do i need?? Any good place for deals?? What cam is the best?? Do i have to change out my clutch if i put in a cam?? Wut else do i need other than what comes in a regular kit??

If i do need a new clutch, how much is it to rebuild a 01 Z06 tranny?? I heard a place in NJ rebuilds with everything for $1100....does that sound rite??

what kind of miles does your car have? When doing a cam valvesprings and gaskets is really on the real requirement but it's a good idea to do pushrods and a underdrive pulley while youre in there. TSP has good deals on all the parts you need and if you know of a different grind cam that you are wanting you can request them order that one for the same prices if you know what lobes, duration, LSA and advance ground in. If you have low miles and have good oil pressure I'd leave the chain and oil pump alone. Is your clutch currently giving you issues? If not leave it. Is your trans giving you issues? if not leave it. Ragtopws6 on here will do a good rebuild for a great price. Also cant go wrong with RPM transmissions although they are a little more expensive. If you dont have headers do them as a cam/headers compliment eachother.

Since you're in San Jose, give forum vendor TPS a call. They're located in Campbell. Phone number: 408-370-1477

i like the G5X3 112 cam, buts thats what i have. if you buy a cam kit it should come with all you need. no you dont have to change out the clutch, but sooner or later it will probally need to be changed.

depends what they do for 1100. it could be a good deal.

For a transmission go with RPM or DTE.... those are the only two trans' I would use, aong with a rebuild by AMR. I've seen so many reports of people having Joe Shmoe who has rebuilt every trans known to man, only to have problems with it in a couple months.

As for the clutch, yes you will eventually need an upgrade... especially if adding a cam. If you are going to do the clutch, do the trans at the same time to save on labor. If the clutch + cam + trans will be too much money, do the clutch, trans, and add a hardened output shaft in the rear. Buy some drag radials and give it hell.

As for the cam, here is what you "should" buy. Hope I don't miss anything. Cam, valvesprings, pushrods, injectors, UD pulley, timing chain, oil pump. TSP sells some nice packages for the money. Their heads are nowhere near the performance of trickflows, but they (LS6 and 5.3L) are a great head for the money.

You may need fortitude if you get a large cam. Larger cams will not have street manners as good as stock or cams. A cam that provides more low to mid range torque will present less tuning issues and have better driveability. If you want big HP, then you need a BIG CAM. You need to decide what your intentions are, decide on your budget, figure out all the parts you need, then go shopping.
Good luck.

Do you have a reason for this?

You can have your tuner tune them to come on at different temps at the same time they are tuning for your cam.
