Default Need some help with a drag wheel setup

Are we pretty much stuck with CCW's, Iroc wheels, GTO front runners? I am leaving the 18 inch drag radial world and hopefully the high 1.6-1.7 60fts.

I just bought a set of 26X11.50 tires from Jason at England Green for 100 bucks. Wanted 10.50's, but I figure they will work.

I really don't want to spend the money on CCW's, and I don't want to run IROC wheels with GTO's skinnies. I would like the car to look nice. Any suggestions that are budget friendly would be nice. Do companies like Centerline, or Summit make 16 inch wheels for our cars?

What size wheel for the tires you bought? CCW and Bogart are the only true 16"
drag wheel setups I know of. Racestar is coming out with a cheaper 17" option but they are available yet.

I cut 1.5 60's almost every pass on my 26x11.5x17 ET streets on 17" Z06 wheels. Never seen anyone run IROC wheels....

i thought i read about some people using some 16" f body (trans am wheels) that were 16x9 ? with gto skinnys...both painted flat black, and they looked similar?

i have the z06 fronts with mt et streets 26x11.5 -17....and i don't match either....

If your new tires are bias ply et streets then get a set of skinnies for stability and overall safety.

Look for a used set of CCW's; they pop up frequently.

If you just don't have the cash then go back to a newer compound drag radial in 17" or 18" and work on getting your 60' lower.
MT/Hoosier/M&H/Nitto all make good drag radials that should put you in the 1.6x's on a good track with the stock clutch and better with an aftermarket.

IMO a good drag radial is all you need right now esp. if you don't have the cash for a drag pack. Don't run bias ply without skinnies, do it right when you can.

Yes, some have used F-body wheels but the 16s are actually 16x8 (the F-body 17s are 17x9 though) and if you go with one of the 5 spoke (Firebird or Camaro) versions they can be similar (though not that close) in design to the GTO spare tire wheels.

I don't know...i don't think my setup looked that ghetto but of course that's just my opinion.

CCWs are heavy(for a drag pack) but do look nice.

Bogarts are nice and light but $$$.

I am running thinspokes with 275/40 ET Street radials and gto spares with the bia plys on front. By the way my drag radials have pulled a 1.59 60' most in the lower 1.6x range. I am also still on the stock clutch...

I guess i'm just trying to say that my budget drag pack looks decent and performs pretty well.

Thanks for all the help guys. After seeing Chris's(PreZo6) setup(same wheel setup as above), I am going to buy his and not use the 26X11.50's. I'll keep them for the future if I want to go with even more tire. I talked to him today a couple times. The price was too good to pass up. The black GTO's look pretty nice to me when they are the same color. Thanks for the pics!

RobZ, I am getting there, trying to learn from you guys. It's different than my previous 3 mustangs. Launching a c5 on 18's wasn't too bad with the stock clutch. I could get it to slip. I now have a spec 3 clutch and it has become more of a challenge. My last time out, I figured out how to launch the car better and was consistantly running 1.70-1.74's with the horrible track prep at SAR( I usually run at HRP in Houston which is better). BTW, good luck on 8's! I don't post here much but I have been keeping track of your progress for a while.

Again, thanks for all the replies.
