Default Aluminum Flywheel?

I have a LS7 Clutch sitting on the bench waiting to go in my car. It is complete with the flywheel but i can't decide if I should use the one that came with it. Anyone using an Alumium Flywheel? I am wondering if with the extra weight of the LS7 Clutch if I should get one. The car is driven mostly on the street but it does go to the track when i can get there. I don't want the car to go slower at the track when I change the clutch. What is a Aluminum Flywheel worth? A tenth? Do you notice the extra weight of the LS7 Clutch after swapping it?

I wish I could give you some words on advice on this. Last I checked unless you bought a flywheel seperate or someone elses kit the LS7 has a steel flywheel from the factory as well as your car does. For regular street use im not a huge fan of aluminum flywheels. My OPINION is they are typically not the best on longevity and some people encounter stalling from them especially w/o a tune. I like the inertia of a steel flywheel at the drag strip. Road course you would want lighter to increase out of the corner acceleration. These are all just my OPINION.

I got the LS7 clutch in my car for 3 years now... and it runs pretty damm good... while not the best clutch for drag racing... i don't see the flywheel slowing you down since you have a steel flywheel in there now

Yes, the assembly came with a steel flywheel but the LS7 Clutch weighs a ton so I was wondering if I should get an aluminum one and have the assembly rebalanced. If I read the weight correctly the LS7 Clutch will only weigh 5lbs less with the Aluminum flywheel than the LS6 clutch does with the steel. I can't imagine this is going to make the car that much harder to drive on the street but maybe i am wrong. But if I keep the stock LS7 flywheel it will weigh 12LBS more than the LS6. I wasn't sure it would be a good idea to be adding 12lbs in recipricating weight.

I agree with you that 5lbs will not effect the car much and will most likely have little no gains in performance. Only different IMO is the longevity of the flywheel surfaces with the clutch. Everyones driving habits are different so one can work out and another cant. Good luck and just beat the **** out of it!!!!!!

I just told you I had the LS7 clutch in my car for 3 years now.... and my car is no garage queen!!... its a good package!!!

don't worry it not going to slow you down........!!! what will be nice is that it feel the same as the factory LS6 clutch with much more holding power!!

to give you an example my car stock c5 and clutch on DR's went 12.8 with LS7 clutch it went 12.7 so no performance loss on'y thing my stock clutch was like an on and off switch no way to really slip it long
