well to start off i have 2 vettes. an a4 coupe and a z06. the coupe broke the tranny shaft a while back and it actually twisted it. this happpend in the street with street tires when the car shifted to 2nd. it also cracked the tranny case but the diff was fine.im thiniking it broke becuase of the torque. now my z broke it at the track but it looks way diffrent. it looks like it was pulled off not twisted. this one broke the the diff case and the tranny is fine. i was thinking that on the launch my diff moved and casue the shaft to brake.i already installed a new diff with harden shaft and a stock tranny shaft. i was wondering why the shafts broke diffrently and also why does everyone buy a harden output shaft for the rear if what seems to be breaking is the one in the tranny.
Hector alot of times a non built rear diff's pinion support can be the culprit. The pinion support pushes back under the hard launch/torque and sometimes can be pushed to the point where it goes at a angle and breakes the transmission main shaft or a output shaft. Sometimes those with stock output shafts the long side shears off inside the case. Now when you break a pinion support and or a passenger output shaft it typically cracks the passenger cover of the rear diff. As for autos FUG if i know
I had a simular deal at the track, the diff case broke on the top pass. side and then broke all the bolts out of the diff. Then in turn it broke the output shaft on the tranny. OPPPPPs, it cost me about 3k to buy a new zo6 tranny and stock 342 diff. I did add the dte diff/tranny brace and I'm hoping that will fix it. So far so good, went back to the track week ago and it all held together. I feel your pain, from the posts I've read its a pretty common occurance. Sucks. Oh, it didn't break anything internally, all the parts looks fine. Good luck
