Default Dyno differences?

Can a dyno be manipulated to show false numbers? I had my car dynoed at one place & it showed 408 rwhp & at another showing 364 rwhp. I can see a small difference but the temp about the same on both days & humidity also the same. Just curious about the big difference. Thanks.

Did you have the same wheels and tires both times ?

Are they the same kind of dyno (Mustang reads lower) ?

They do read out different such as SAE corrected, STD...ect...and it will make some diffence.

As stated, Mustangs read lower then dyno jets, also has to do with the dyno technician and what they may decide your car wieghs for loaded testing.

Hot Rod magazine did an article a few months back where they did back to back testing on 5 different dynos. I can't remember the exact numbers, but there were big differences (well over 50hp).

Also, Hot Rod Magazine used the wrong car to test the dynos with. They chose the Mustang Super Snake and a horrible test car due to heat soaking. The purpose was to test the dyno, not the car. There can be swings in the dyno readings depending on the dyno manfuacturer.

I posted a thread when the article first appeared and concluded the test was very flawed.

First, the use the Shelby Super Snake which can have heat issues which can cause wide variations from run to run. They should have picked a Z06 which should lay down consistent runs.

Second, they did not scan the car while it was on the dyno, so there could have been knock retard present which would explain why one run was different than the others.

Third, they made no attempt to determine exactly the cause why some dyno runs were high and the others were low.

Brian's Dynopack has proven to me how consistent the numbers are from run to run. On my car, I thought the numbers were very comparable to the Dynojet.
