now, with the only thing different between these 2 real world cars besides the supension and the 410s, which car would be more likely to win in a heads up 1/4 mile race given those being the only real significant differences in the 2 set ups?
assuming the drivers are of equal skill and having both gone to about the same driving schools. the same entry level road course class to get you familiar with the car.
both cars will eventually have spray but neither will be spraying for this race because all it takes is a bigger jet size theoretically and that car wins.
i guess what im gettning at, all dyno numbers aside, which set up will be the better "race car" for the quarter mile?
Id have to say Kooks and AR is a wash so the advantage would have to go with the base because the 4.10's (better than the Z06 tranny gearing) and the TFS heads generally out perform the AFR's unless they've been touched up by Tony Mamo. If the upgrade to the clutch has a lighter flywheel the base should have a slight HP edge as long as both FAST set ups are the same, ported or unported. The Z06 might stand up to more continuous abuse with the twin disk clutch and built tranny. It would definitely be close and totally depend on traction on launch. The Z06 should be able to launch harder with coil overs an ET streets, but if you can leave clean on 4.10s you will have a good shot. Overall it will be a door to door race but I would have to say slight edge for the Coupe given equal drivers.
I will see if I can bring a vid camera when this race goes down. We have been debating on this race for a couple months while both the cars have been getting worked on. But this up coming week, both builds will be coming to being close to being done. The base will be back tues or wed. Depending on parts the Z06 may take a little while longer but not too much longer. This will happen very soon. Should be a very interesting run or two. We all agree that the 60ft times will be the deciding factor. And will definitely be one for the slow motion finish line cam.
The base '03 seems it would have the power advantage; bigger cam (Whiplash II > Mayhem II) and the TFS heads probably slightly outflow the AFR. And the '03 has a little bit higher gearing with the 4.10's vs the Z06 M12 trans and 3.42 gears, but not much. The gearing between to two is so close I really don't think it would make much of a difference at all being H/C cars. But the Z06 has a slight "launch" advantage with the adjustable coilovers and a small weight advantage I assume. Man, its almost too close to call. But to answer your question which is better for the 1/4 mile, my guess goes to the Z06.
found out today that in fact the 01Z06 will be intalling a 102mm tb as well as 102mm fast instead of the 90/92mm he bought a week ago. wonder what will happen now??

No big advantage there. As a matter of fact with limited cubic inches (346) the 102mm TB will most likely result in less torque down low than the 90/92 combo.
If I were a betting man, the Z06..... mostly due to the fact of the built trans and dual clutch allows for a harder launch. With good drag tires you could do quite well.
It takes a modded base to touch a stock Z, now put same mods on Z and it walks the base. No question about it, car for car, the Z and on E.T. streets and a good smooth clutch, c'mon..........
I see these guys have EG cams, are they in Houston? PM me I'd like a piece.

Can't say that I agree with your logic when comparing a modded coupe to a modded Z06. When you change the heads, cam, intake and exhaust on both vettes the original advantage that the Z had no longer exists...both should make close to identical power when using the same components. The Z will still have a weight advantage if the cars are untouched...no real advantage to either car when considering traction if running on the same wheels and tires.
It's the trim package. The base has selective ride control, fog lights, HUD, memory seats... All the bells and whistles. Just to reference any weight differences in the 2 cars. Which is only 130 lbs. The driver of the 01Z06 has more weight that that on his person, so we will just call the car weights an even stalemate lol

with you having a 2 stg n20 setup i dont see that being a very fair race.
besides, its a friendly race and there is no money involved. its just a race for fun between two co-workers who just so happen to be gear heads with c5's
I find this a very interesting thread indeed......
Since I'm the owner if the 2001 Z-06 in question! It is truly a friendly race amongst coworkers. I'm having "England Green" Install :
1) Tony Mamo 102 FAST Intake and 102 throttle Body
2) AFR 205 CNC Heads (Used Heads so Stephen and Steve are going to kill me before it's over I'm sure)
3) Yella Terra Rockers
4) 60lb Siemens Flow Matched Injectors
5) Patriot Extreme .650 Dual Springs
6) Stephen's Excellent as always Super Tune
I have no clue what the final numbers will be but Damn this is fun... May the Real fun begin soon.......
