Default Dragstrip Results!

This was the second time I've dragraced the z06, first time was over 2 years ago when I lived in WA. Last night was 85F+ and I hotlapped the car for these times, no cool down.

Modifications: LG Pro Longtubes, B&B Bullets, Halltech Venom II, Tuned, Nitto 555R II's. Dyno: 360/365

First run was a mess. The cars that ran before me dropped something on the track so they made us shut down and wait. When I fired it back up, I forgot to turn Comp Mode back on. Wheelhopped the burnout and had to bail out, turned it back on. Bogged out of the hole and missed 3rd gear, great pass! Gave it up and ran a 15.4 at 70mph.

Second pass was a little better. Bogged out of the hole again and had a 2.116 60ft and hit 13.118 at 110.71mph.

Cranked it to 4000rpm on the 3rd pass and slipped the clutch a tiny bit and yanked it out of the hole for a 1.981 60ft and ran a 12.587 at 112.23mph. Pretty happy with that run. I let it cool down after that, as well as myself...since I was dripping with sweat and soaking my interior. I ran a 12.80 again later in the night, but I slipped sideways in 2nd. Maybe the track was getting cold or something since it was 9:30 at night. Anyway, pretty happy with the 12.58 for now. Will try again later in the year when it's not so hot out! I'm also getting use to the Nitto 555R's. I've never used drag radial type tires before. I'm thinking maybe trying 4500rpm next time and slipping again. It bogged for a split second before it hooked and took off on the 1.981 60ft. Have a lot of room for improvement yet.

Here is the breakdown of the pass.

R/T: .856
60': 1.981
330: 5.371
1/8: 8.192
MPH: 88.30
1000: 10.576
1/4: 12.587
MPH: 112.23

edit: Checked the DA and it was about 2433.

That's not too bad. I was expecting better 60' with nittos but like u said u haven't raced it much. Def a drivers car. I ran 13.2@107 when my 01z was bone stock and was happy. Then I got used to the car and ran 12.6@113 after many to the strip. Ended up running 11.97@115 with gears, vararam and slicks.

Yeah, there is MUCH more room for improvement with the Nitto's. Hell, people have pulled 60ft times better than mine with the stock F1's. I'm still learning though, and am quite ok with the mistakes I've made. I'm hoping to get the 60ft down to 1.8x's, but it will take some practice.

It's insane to believe that Ranger managed a 12.14 pass in a bone stock 01 z06 on stock tires. I don't expect to run as well as him, but I'd certainly be happy to run a 12.0 with the car as it sits with the current mods.

Congrats. It is a good start.
Video quality is excellent and will greatly assist in analyzing your run. DRs will take getting use to. These tires are capable of 60's in the 1.6x range with decent track prep and a good launch. The OEM clutch can only take a certain amount of slippage during the launch and can become overheated. (In your case, this was not exceeded. ) The launch was somewhat soft since it was not very aggressive. You should be able to apply more throttle quicker. Remember that track prep, track temp, launch RPM, launch style, clutch type, tire type, and tire pressure all affect your 60'. Ranger does a great job getting people started in the right direction.

Good luck and keep us posted.

12.3 is very good, but even at 2433 DA, you are leaving ET and MPH on the table. Sounds like you aren't carrying out the revs far enough.

Thanks guys! Yeah, I need to launch it quite a bit harder. I've always been afraid to give it so much gas and crank the RPM. Even just 4000rpm made all the difference. I'll keep at it and see how much the tires can take. I also ran them at stock pressures, they were at ~32psi cold.

Sounds like you aren't carrying out the revs far enough.
I know I wasn't during the launch, but are you talking about shifting? I was shifting at redline, right before it actually slapped the limiter. I was shifting about 6300/6400rpm every single time.

These tires are capable of 60's in the 1.6x range
I couldn't imagine doing a 1.6x 60ft. That's nuts.

Eventually you will be running them in the 16-22 psi range depending on the conditions. With the correct launch, 1.6-1.7 60's are just aroung the corner.

And I can't wait! I ran them at 32psi cold during these runs. I have a lot to play with and learn.

You may need to cool down that clutch between runs with lower tire pressure. Use a stick to push the clutch in (wedge it between the clutch and seat frame) to speed up the cool down time.

Ah, will do. I noticed the clutch was starting to stick a bit after the 2nd run. The 3rd run went ok, obviously, but I could see needing to cool it down. I need to clean the fluid now too.

I just managed 1.88 and 1.83 and my first two nitto launches. They are brand new tires and just barely did a burn out, cause the car bong. I ran them with 15psi and drop the clutch at 4000 rpms. High 1.7x are doable with these tires and a good launch, These were 285 35 18 tires

Keep at it.
I came from a 513 geared, 1965 small block Nova to the vette. What a change. I couldn't launch it for s*it. Finally got some Nittos and got it down to 1.6' sixtys. Never ran better than 12.6 with the stock setup but I was happy.
