Default lets discuss cages.....

I'm going to go out on a limb here......and say there is no way all of the guys on the fast list run a cage (6 point+). So whats ups ?? (11.49 or quicker)
I spoke to a couple people who are on the list who do not have a cage and they said there track lets them sign a wavier which allows them to race with no cage...wtf......

My local track is NHRA cerified so they are on top of this sh*t. And as of next year we will be required to run a diaper if your 10.90 or faster.

So about the cage......I'm on the fence about it......is a bolt in the way to go (RSD or Wolfe) or a chassis shop custom job the way to go ??

So whats everyones setup ?? I'm looking for opinions and ideas.

Thanks....

All our tracks are strict too. I have a Wolfe 5pt good for 10.0, so I usually de-tune for bracket racing.

I depends on how fast you plan to go and which tracks you plan to run at. I ran a bolt-in 5 point cage when I was in the 10s. Most tracks would let me get by with an occasional 9 second run. Now I have an 8.50 certified cage done by a chassis shop as I plan to run close to that limit and maybe even under it.

i run a 5pt cage and sometimes the track will give you one warning. if you go under 10.0 sec or over 135mph threshold it depends on how far you pushed it. i ran a 9.899 at 133.79mph and got no second chance read me riot act. it was the first time we got the car to take a 100shot without spinning

if your planning on going 8.50 later do the welded as they can add right on to existing

There have recently be accounts of some going to track rentals without proper equipment (racing without a cage) and then they had gotten into an accident and died in a crash at the track. Their family was suing the track and almost closed it. That sort of stuff almost shut down the track for the rest of the people who upgraded and are following the track rules.

I have six point welded in.

I have a cheap 6point bolt in. My track is strict I stand on the brakes at the end. They look at me a bit funny and watch me like a hawk.

Thanks for the replies guys......

I get the safety factor and it is important to me. I'm just overly cautious about going down this road....the trailor queen road . I own a "race car" and its not my vette but the catch is if I want to run the number I have to play by the rules. The vette will never be a track ***** but in saying that I do expect to run it consistently untill the combo is lined out. I have even contemplated working on my 60' and 1/8 mile then getting on the breaks...and when I have those two criteria covered, then I would try my hand at a full pass. Hopefully running close to my expectations without the cage.
Like I've said several times....its just a Friday/Saturday night ride, cruise around and head out to the track to help my buddies in the OTT5 heads up class.

So...how much sould I expect to pay for a custom weldin cage ?? like a halo with 6 tie in points.

And is there any draw backs to a mass made bolt in 6 point ?? (10.0 or slower)

And to answer your et question.....if I'm not knocking on the 9.80 door I will be disappointed.

Thanks...

If this is a street car the bolt in cages IMO are not the best . For 2500-3000$ you can have a custom cage that tucks into the roof where there will be no interference for a daily driver .Depending on you chassis guys skills you can hide the bars so you can't really see them when looking in. If you do the cage properly it won't interfere with your normal driving . Most of the "mail order cages " I have seen are made to fit every car and the differences so there not as tight as the custom ones. I have not seen a RSD cage yet in person but from what I hear there the best of the mail order. Ecs just installed one in a Daily driver 1swtrides car check with him on fitment. Good luck
