Default Auto trans cooler question

Hey folks,

Didn't get any responses in Tech, so i'll ask here.

I'd like to see install photos, type of cooler used and how it was connected to the stock lines.

I'm hoping there is a method to connect w/o chopping the factory lines. Might not be possible. I'd like to use SS braided hose and fittings. I would also like to completely bypass the in radiator trans "cooler/heater".

Thanks,

Ron

Yes can be done without cutting any lines and using just AN adapters and -6 stainless lines--
ALSO-- IF you are still running the stock thermo then bypassing the radiator trans cooler will make the fluid temp go down---BUT if you have a lower 160-180 thermo and have your fans set to come on early--then the trans would be cooler by running both coolers-- as the radiator temp of like 180* can cool the trans temps of 200 very quickly--But if your radiator temp is 210--- then how can you cool the trans lower than 210 ??? It will HEAT up the trans fluid !!

Ron,
I'm using this B&M cooler - it has a built in thermostat and fan. It has connections for AN and I'll use the stock trans lines up to the engine compartment (seems the easiest way) then convert to braided line forward to the cooler. I'm mounting it in front of the radiator on the cross bar with brackets I'm fabricating.

BMM-70298

I'm bypassing the radiator. I've got a 4000 Yank and 3.42 behind a bolt on LS6

I dont have any pics of the install yet, because I haven't started it yet.

Thanks Guys.

Tblu....I wasn't planning on tryng to run a lower temp thermostat in the car. You echo my thinking exactly on the effect of the cooler in the radiator. If nothing else, the cooler in the rad will help the trans get up totemp quicker. But with a high stall converter, I think it does that all by itself.
I'll check into the required adapters to -AN. I'm sure I have plenty of spare hose around.

Capthuff....thanks for the idea. I have always used the B&M stacked plate coolers. They are nice parts. The fan setup is a good idea. Are you going to put it up front or back in the rear? I'm going to have to see how much room is available up front. The time is now, I'll be ready to install the radiator in a couple of weeks.

Thanks,

Ron

I'm installing mine up front. In front of the radiator. With braided line back to the stock lines from the trans. The junction is right about at the bell housing area.

They make that pretty easy with the unions back there. Added bonus you get the dang hard lines out of the front of the car. They make removing the rack a pain!
Will you use teflon braided or std rubber braided hose?

Hi,
If your not going to put a cooler thermostat and lower your fan temps, you might be interest in a product the we have called the CoolIt.
If you mount the trans cooler in front of the radiator the CoolIt will allow you to turn the right side radiator cooling fan on in high speed mode when ever you want to, like when
the trans temps are up you could pull air through the trans cooler with the push of a button via wireless key FOB. It will cool your engine at the same time. The CoolIt only take 10 minutes to install.
Here is a link if your interested. There is a installation video here to.
