I have 2001 Corvette. Engine is nothing but stock. it has 120,000Miles on it.
Since head gasket is bad, I'm planning to rebuilt low end and use ported head and bigger cam. Any recomendation about head and cam?
LS1tech has more information on this than you can read. Just browse a bit and you'll find a lot of answers.
Or, noob, he could get some solid answers here from guys that build them...
OP, auto, or 6 speed?
What are your goals? Track? Only street?
MPG a concern?
You'll find a lot of builds here from mild to wild.
If you're just looking for a basic upgrade, you can usually get a good price on some bolt on heads ready to go out of the box. Get a mild cam and that's all you really need. No real reason to tear down the bottom end unless you suspect an issue down there.
If you do decide to rebuild the bottom end, and you are going to have fun at the track, go for a stroker kit. 383 or 402 can be a load of fun from the torque you get. Just my opinion.

It's not like either forum is lacking in advice on head/cam combos, but both are great resources and we know for sure he's already on this one. What does a noob know about reading the wealth of information you veterans have already posted for us to use, anyway?

But out of a ls1 motor 383 is it. Forged rods & stock crank & forged piston. APR stuff thur the motor. Then a good set of 243 heads with a good cam. ls6 intake with 90 mm T.B. Good set of LT headers. 450 to 475 rwhp out of it with no problems... Robert
