We need to put a bar in to run 10.0 legally. Checked with some local chassis shops and didn't get a good feel from them about dropping our car off to get work done. Just a personal feeling.
Who has installed a bar and which did you prefer? You can PM if you don't feel comfortable posting your experience on the forum. I'll do the work myself. Looking for quality of construction, ease of installation, how well it fits, and most importantly will it pass NHRA tech? Super Chevy is in Ennis at the Motorplex and their tech is pretty strict.
Ha! You know my opinion on one of those two choices....
Thanks Ron! I was trying to keep you out of it ...
I looked at the "other" one and their web site is showing that rear bar to be lower and more in line where it needs to be to be NHRA legal when you mount the belts and run it though the seat. Price is about the same for CM and it has swing out bars. If you get a chance check out all the pictures on their site and see if that rear bar is lower than yours.
YES! That is in the correct position.
Why didn't I use that bar......
Thanks for looking at it. I like the pictures with the seats in so you can see the height. Might still be a PITA to get in but at least that part may be correct. I'll order a CM one soon with both swing out bars.
I installed a Wolfe in my vert. The first bar they shipped was incorrect. I say this to illustrate the customer service. I called them and then took pics and emailed them. Within a week I had the correct bar. I'd say that was good service. It fit fine. It did hit the edges of the seats. It served it's purpose. Passed tech with no issues.
I did. Not a good visit IMHO. To begin with, we called at 2pm when we were leaving the tuners which is about an hour away to see if he would be there at 3pm. It was Good Friday and I just wanted to make sure he would be open. He said yes he would be there and to come on. We arrived about 10 minutes early; 2:50. He wasn't there. Guy in the shop said he just left for a second and would be right back. No big deal; I was early. We waited until 3:45 and he hadn't arrived yet so we left.
In the meantime, while waiting, my wife and I walked around the shop. There were about 8 or 9 cars getting work done and they were all much, MUCH, more involved that what we were needing. Full cages, suspensions, etc. However, each car looked like it had been there a LONG time and none of them appeared to be anywhere near completion. To each his own and I'm quite sure they do excellent work but the shop was a complete mess. No rhyme or reason were anything was. Being a tad OCD and very meticulous about our cars it was physically stressful for me to stay in there and wait. There were 3 employees on hand and no one was doing any work. There were just standing around shooting the breeze. I noticed the car that appeared to have the "least" amount of work being done. A late-model GM short-bed stepside truck getting a bar and mini-tubs. I asked one of the guys how long they had that particular vehicle and he said A YEAR AND A HALF. That was about the time we had been there an hour and decided to leave.
Again, I'm sure that they do great work but from all of the above issues I decided to go another route.
I can't blame you for not wanting to get your car worked on in a shop run like that.
I still vote for a custom bar though. I'm sure you can find a good shop to so your bar.
We've got a shop up here that can turn your car in 2 days. Make it a mini vacation. The bar will be everything you want and more.
There's gotta be a place like that down near you.
Yes. I agree. I'll keep looking but so far no luck. If I don't find anything by the time summer vacation starts I'll just do it myself. At least that way we'll be legal to 10.0.
I have talked with these guys they seem pretty confident and knowledgeable
If I go with a pre fabbed setup it will be this one. They sell it as a 5/6 pt then you can add and upgrade any time down the road to a 8pt and they guarantee it to pass tech
I got the Wolfe 5pt bolt-in, and took about 8 weeks to get delivered. It gets thru tech just fine. The fit was great for me. I just pulled the seats & carpet and installed over a weekend.

Thanks. I appreciate the input. I also didn't realize they were in Fort Worth. That's only a two-hour drive so I could go pick it up and save on shipping.

I was wondering if you picked any of the rollbars? I was looking at the RPM model but really didn't like the look of that. From what I am seeing on this thread there have been some problems with the RSD bars? I am wondering if it was a quality, delivery, or.....issue? I have been looking at the wolfe and it does seem to be a nice bar. I think a member on here rolled his vette a few years ago and swore the wolfe rollbar saved his life. I will have to look for the link.
I just put nitrous on my car and will need a rollbar to run legally at my track. I just don't want to buy one that winds up being in the way, poor design, and a waste of my hard earned cash.
Here is the link. The member name is Peter Pan. The bar bent, but kept the roof from collapsing on his head. He also said the posts did not pull or push through the mounting points.
I may be stating the obvious, but no one has said it yet.
Look at the location at which these different brand of roll bars mount. And now picture where you sit.......then read the NHRA jargon on how a roll bar/cage is suppose to encompass the driver. (HINT) Some of the manufactures bars mount up high on the "waterfall" area, while "others" tie-in behind the front seats AT THE FLOOR. Which one encompasses the driver........
I posted in the Texas section of the LS1 forum seeing if anyone knew of a good local shop to do a bar. Came up with about a half dozen responses but I haven't checked them out yet. We have about 3 more weeks of school then summer vacation. I'll make some calls and perhaps visit the shops that sound promising when I'm on break. If one of them pans out I'll take it there and if nothing impresses me I'll just go ahead and put a Wolfe bar in it. From the research I've done thus far it looks like that will be the best bet if I do it myself.
