hey guys. first post on here for me.
im very seriously looking for my first vette. im far from new to the ls game. ive had several f-bodies, but have taking a liking to the vettes recently.
the questions i have are along the lines of, strength of the irs (damn 10 bolts keep me paranoid), what rear suspension type stuff does it take to make a 550whp c5 to hook well on the street? which is where i do the most racing (yeah yeah, keep those comments to your self)
again im coming from fbodies that are fairly easy to make work pretty much anywhere.
I believe u need spindles to do 15's out back. I've been using 16 inch CCW's and a M/T drag radial with my rear suspension being 100% factory. My car hooks from a dig on the street at 575 RWHP all day long with a 295/50/16 and an automatic trans. Most guys run a 3 rib rear end case and C6 Z06 shocks. If you are concerned about the half shafts and have experience tearing into rear ends, You can get into some 300m shafts. C6z shafts may even fit.
If you have some money to play with, RPM transmissions has everything you need to make a killer Street beast. Providing you have 10 K handy for a trans., and rear end case with all the fixins......
I am running a fifteen inch wheel, Hoosier on Bogarts for the track -25.9". Have mid 1.3X sixty foots. Have ET Streets (radials) for my drag package in 15's for street use.
Hoosier on Bogarts in sixteen inch drag pack- 26"
Also have Hoosier on Bogarts in a twenty eight inch tire
There are a lot of good hooking stock suspension cars, check out the bottom of the sticky for best 60 foot times...
The smallest diameter wheel that will fit the back of a stock C5 is a 16", but you'll have to do a little bit of work to the upper ball joint to get them to fit.
If you want 15", you'll need to either buy a new spindle kit from LG, or take your spindles out and cut 1" out and weld them back together.
Plenty of cars with a 17" wheel and drag radial are hooking just fine on a well prepped track.
