I was curious if anyone on here has any input or personal knowledge about the Tick SNS "Torque Monster" Stage 3 cam for a LS6. I did a lot of research and talked with Martin and he suggested this cam to me. I agreed with him and ordered it along with other small additions.
The car is NOT a DD and will NOT be. For the moment it is bone stock but it will have a vararam, LT's into an off road X-pipe through the Ti exhaust. Car has 34k miles on it and it drives like a dream.
I have an EXCELLENT tuner available to me who is well known in the LS world and works for a forum vendor, so I have trust the tuner/builder. I have used him in the past and have nothing but positive things to say, but now to the main point.
I am curious about driveability or for a lack of better terms smooth rides. Yes it is a Corvette but I don't want to be bounced around in the car at a red light like I'm sitting in a gutted POS import that has been slammed or some crap like that. My bro has a cammed Z06 that has a smaller cam than this one and it shakes the entire car which is not ideal for me. His car does have roughly 90k miles and motor mounts and other mounts may be some of the issues.
Just asking for experience or input. Thanks in advance
I had to search to find the spec's of that cam, if what I found is correct you are 16* overlap. If your brother is using the same tuner as you are going to I really don't understand why you would choose a larger camshaft. Can you explain?
I've had a 17* overlap camshaft, it's in the original box sitting on a shelf. It will be a handful to tune & compromises will required. Driveability is subjective, anything under 2k rpm won't be nice.
Knowing Martin as I do & you outlined to him your driveability concerns as you did here.......I don't understand your choice.
If I was going to use that cam in my automatic, it would be with 3.90 gears, long tube headers and a 4000 rpm stall. With AFR heads to take advantage of the .600 plus lift. And changing springs at 10,000 miles. Would be low a 11 second car maybe quicker depending on track and weather. It would be a screamer. Ron B.
Martin knows his stuff!!
If you told him EXACTLY what you wanted from the car and what it would be used for, that is the cam he designed for you
I have one of his custom blower cams and it makes insane hp and idles great with no surging, etc in my A4 street car. (Exactly what I told him I wanted from it)
I spoke with Martin at great length about those issues. Upon Martin's recommendation I went with the Stage 3 SNS. It looks like I may have to compromise a few things but not too much.
I guess I was just a little curious if the structural soundness of the car(motor mounts, torque tube, cross member mounts) and all that stuff will make a large difference. I really don't mind too much I just don't want any surging or anything like that. I know the majority of these issues rely on the tune/tuner. I have much faith in my tuner so hopefully it will all work out. I will keep you guys updated with a full report and my personal experiences with this cam when I get it all installed and tuned.
I've had the SNS Stage 3 in my car for 6 months or so, and honestly, I'm so glad I picked that cam at Martins recommendation. I love it. Being close to PCM of NC, I had Alvin tune the car. He got the car dialed in very well, I can cruise on the hwy in 6th gear with no bucking above 1700 rpm, go below that and it will buck a bit. Cruising in a parking lot I get some minor bucking in 1st gear, mitigate that by feathering the clutch and throttle. No big deal. When starting on a cold start, the car shakes, it's a big cam, that happens and I love that! Once warm, it settles down pretty good, but inherently, you get some big cam shake and it's awesome. I've got stock mounts with 25K miles.
My car with Kooks LT 1 7/8" headers, Off road X pipe, airaid CAI, Fast 36lb injectors, 255 under drive pulley, Brian Tooley springs and stock everything else put down 447/406. Had to do a clutch as well, stock clutch even with only 25K miles couldn't hold the power at the track with drag radials, it slipped all the way down the track.

Thank you sir...I am ok with all of this. The car is not a daily driver and I will track it 1 or twice a year. And a little spirited driving from time to time. If I can mitigate the bucking during low speeds with the clutch which is to be expected, I will be just fine with this! Thanks once again..the first week in September is install/tune date..Looking forward to it..I will post back with comments and numbers when it is complete.
