I have an 02 C5 convertible. I am wanting to tune it with an HP tuner. I need advice from anyone that has alreay done this. What parameters do I need to set so that it will shift properly and increase horsepower when tuned. Maintaining reliability is key for me. Any advice from those of you in the know is greatly appreciated.
If you've never used HP Tuners it's a pretty steep learning curve for beginners. I don't know your technical or tuning background but it's fairly complicated and you can easily hurt your car if you don't know what you're doing. That's not to say that one can't learn but it requires research. The Tuning School sells some nice teaching material for do-it-yourself folks that is very straightforward and easy to follow. That's just one route to go.

I agree with everything Scott said. HPTuners is a great tool - in the right hands. It's certainly learnable with assistance from places like The Tuning School. I had dinner with some of the guys there the other night and they are very customer drive.
Call them and let them know what you'd like to accomplish.
A lot of us use HPTuners and the learning curve is quite steep, but not insurmountable.
I am by no means an expert, but I can sort of find my way around it. I bought the interface from my tuner and we work together remotely to adjust for changes I make to the car. As a result, I'm getting much more comfortable with it.
Get the Pro version so you can log wide band O2 and some other things you might want to log in the future.
or you can be like me and have someone tune it and not worry about things happening to your motor. I know what I know and just feel better having an experienced person touching my car. Not that I don't think I can learn it but there are folks out there at do it for a living and the fact that there is so much to know... I prefer to not practice with my own car I've seen motors that had to be replaced (example: my 04 346 OEM) Marshall (previous owner) had to replace with a new block because of a tune mistake ...
my 98 is a daily driver with none of the big cam issues that I read about all of the time.
Posts #4, 5 & 6 should be bookmarked! Every word is spot on.
Agree with buying the Pro version; wish we had done that.
Ron has a tremendous amount of knowledge on HP Tuners and has helped us out more than one time.
And as Hot Wheels said we have someone else doing our tuning that knows what they are doing. I may have the intelligence but haven't made the time and don't have the desire to jump in and do our own tuning. We log runs and email them to our tuner and he tells us tweaks to add. That's as in-depth as we get with it all and I'm fine with that.
Contact Ed at ERM performance tuning. He will do live sessions and teach you about using the software. He taught me more in 2 hours than I learned from weeks of reading. He has great prices too very very fair. Also if you buy HP Tuners from him he throws in a free session. Tell him I sent you! Also if you want advice one of the best guys I have talked to.
