Default Jegs Cam & Bolt Ons Results

2000 FRC, stock Z06 exhaust w/bypass mod, stock heads, stock intake with ziptie mod, LT 1 3/4 headers with Corsa xpipe, ls6 intake and a Jegs 228/230 .585/.585 112lsa, made 363whp/365wtq on a dynapack dyno. Car definitely does not feel like 360ish though. Feels more like a 400whp car. Soon to come will be 243 ported heads off a 2004 Z06 and a CAI.

Might follow in your footsteps with the cam. Any idle and WOT pull videos? I'm curious on sound it makes.

PS: Just noticed you’re Corvette Garage!! I also noticed you had the Magnaflow system before you went to the Z06 Ti, I happen to have the same Magnaflow you had before switching. I agree it’s quiet but I’ll have to make the best of it for now. Anyhow, I think I will end up with a milder cam either the JEGS 228/230 .585/.585 or similar. Good to know the info about your injector upgrade too. Great stuff and thanks for your YouTube videos. I just subbed!

Haha that's great, thank you!! I don't promote my channel here as I don't use the forum for that. But that's so cool that you found me. Yeah, the Magnaflow system was just too damn quiet, it came with my car when I purchased it. The injector upgrade is a must on any year C5 if going cam and bolt ons. After speaking with Cole at Fuel Injector Connection and a friend of mine who works on performance cars, I went with the 42lb injectors.

Feel free to messeg me any time if you have questions about my set up. I'll be doing some wot pull videos soon, stay tuned!

Hey EVLGTO, thanks for helping me with the decision making. I've decided I'm going with the JEGS 228/230 .585/.585. At $229 the price is unbeatable, and performance seems comparable to a Stage 2 cam with a fraction of the cost. Your positive review along with many others on the JEGS site made me go for it, and it'll be plenty for my driving goals.

Any idea how dynapack numbers typically compare to a dynojet? Those numbers seem low for your mods on an FRC. You should be around 400 at the wheels.

My tuner's system dynos low. He said his friend's 02 SS Camaro with the same mods made about 376whp catless on his dyno. Then the dude went to another guy who had a dynojet and made 404whp. Also my cats and stock intake weren't helping at all. I now have a Haltech air bridge and purchased high flow race cats which will go in next week.

Besides the 42lbs injectors and dual valve spring kit you mentioned getting, did you add any other supporting mods? (High volume oil pump, new front seal, new damper...etc.?) I'm still on to get the same JEGS cam, but I'm still financially a couple months away from pulling the trigger.

If your going to do the cam on a C5, get everything now so you won't have to replace it later. Although my damper didn't wobble, it was starting to seperate by the looks of the rubber, so I replaced it. I also replaced all the gaskets on everything I took apart and the front main seal. My car didnt leak one drop of oil, nor were there any signs of a leak coming. But I went ahead and replaced the gaskets anyways as they were 18 years old. Let me also stress that you should use OEM gaskets. One of our vendors here which is Texas Speed has a great kit they sell that includes everything. I didn't replace my oil pump, I stayed stock.

Did you upgrade your pushrods with the build?

I'm assuming 7.400 is the stock pushrod length? Did you also upgrade your rockers? I want to make sure I don't screw up the rocker/pushrod/valve geometry and get the correct pushrod spec. I'm keeping my stock 853 heads.

I believe stock is 7.395 or something close to that, someone else might have a better answer on that one. But most of the consensus go with 7.4. Valve to piston clearance is very important, but this isn't a donkey stick of a cam and the set up I mentioned will work.

And the diameter of the pushrod? They vary between 5/16, 11/32, and 3/8.

Hi Evil, I’m about to do a cam install and we basically have the same set up you started with. Did you run it down the track 1/4 mile ? Time ? Wanna make sure I do it rite the first time. Goal is a substantial advancement in power from top to bottom without killing the motor but I also don’t need to be the fastest DD. Any info with results or suggestions with my install would be greatly appreciated. Thank you sir!

No track times yet, but the drivability is awesome and have no issues. The car pulls great on the bottom and mid end, better than big cams. It doesn't have the top end of a big cam, but it does still pull awesome top end! This is a great baby cam!

It is a fantastic cam EVLGTO!! As you already know, my results are in. 397WHP on Dynojet. Pulls hard, clean and even throughout the powerband and makes power all the way between 6500-6700, hence my tuner decided to put my rev limiter at 7000 and recommended me to shift between 6700-6800. You already know my build but for all others, I have a sister build to EVLGTO. I kept stock 853 heads (but refreshed them with dual valve spring kit and cleaned the valves) and I got the same JEGS cam.585/.585/228/230 112LSA, 42# injectors, LS6 intake, K&N cold air intake with K&N air bridge, Texas Speed 1-3/4 Long Tube Headers with Offroad Texas Speed X pipe mated to Magnaflow XL mufflers. I love this cam and honestly anything more aggressive camwise would've been too much for me. Bucking is minimal, but still bucks a tad compared to stock obviously. It's just a matter of getting used to and changing my driving style since this is my first cammed car. FYI: Spark plugs used were NGK TR5GP (they're pregapped at 0.040"). Throttle coolant bypass mod was also done during the build.

397rwhp STD corrected to SAE is about ~383rwhp

363rwhp SAE corrected to STD is about ~377rwhp

I have a 6.0 in my '84, it made 433rwhp uncorrected (very cool temps that day), 420rwhp corrected to STD, 405rwhp corrected to SAE. I have the next smaller Jegs/elgin/TFS cam the 220/224 .575/.575 112lsa one.

To the OP it probably does feel like a 400rwhp car because it is probably making close to 400 uncorrected rwhp on the street with good air and temps in the 48-55° range during the evening hours in San Diego.

Good observation Krusty. I'll be getting a re-tune soon, I'll post up numbers once that happens.
