Default Second dyno Day - Guesstimates?

OK, I've got my second dyno day of the year upcoming on July 15. I went this past May and put down 318 RWHP. Here's the thread and I've attached my dyno graph.

My setup in May:

Stock '99 LS1
C6Z air box and MAF
LG LT Street headers, X-pipe, and Z06 Ti exhaust
LS7 Clutch and Flywheel
Fresh LS6 valve springs
LS6 valley cover
secondary AIR system delete
Novice Tune

Now I'm coming with a few more mods:

219/228 .525"/.525" @112 LSA Cam (Ls1 Hot Cam)
25% ATI Underdrive pulley
Fast 78 intake

What I'm looking for is a nice increase in the mid range, and of course a little bit more in the Top End. The weather will be hotter, and much more humid, it's been pretty brutal hot in New England this month so far. Of course, this will be on the same stingy AWD Mustang Dyno, not willing to give an inch.

My guess is 345-350, an increase of ~30 over my previous showing.

I think 350 is pretty accurate. Definitely sounds like a stingy dyno. Interested to see how the old fast 78 does

One day after I'm done with all my planned mods, I'll take her to a Dynojet to compare numbers. But for now I'm just looking to track improvements.

Any more guesses?

I just got back from my dyno pull appointment. They had a computer issue building the graph, and will email that to me later in the day. I'll post the results tonight!

My 50th convertible has headers, ram air, high flow cats and was tuned. Engine not touched. On the Dyno is was 375 at the rear wheels. Estimated at 425 at the flywheel. I'm guessing you'll be close to this.

That sounds like a bit of a happy dyno. My Z06 made 390 wheel with full exhaust, intake and tune

Well they didn't send me the PDF yet, I will post that soon after I get it. I know the number but failed to take any pictures on the screens. I managed one quick video though.

Well my Graph is in! 388whp, 383TQ. The results are quite impressive, so impressive that I question whether the first pull was too low, or this one reads too high. Make no mistake the car feels much stronger 3k+. There's still room for another graph comparison, but that's it for modding this year. I have some TSP Stage 2.5 heads, Crane Gold 1.8 roller rockers, and a BBK 80mm TB in my parts inventory that are waiting to go on, but for this season I'm happy with what I have. I do my own tuning, so I'm just tinkering with Part Throttle stuff, slight bucking, and lean on cold starts.

Still find it hard to believe that a Hot Cam, Fast 78, and 25% Underdrive pulley was worth 70 HP at the wheels. But I'll take it!

Hey, we were talking on your YouTube video. This is awesome. I also think the 70hp gain makes sense. Say 45hp for the cam, 15 for the intake and 10 for the udp. Even 50+12+8 could be the breakdown. Either way, great results and gains everywhere, starting even at 2500 which is awesome.

Did you get the TSP heads installed? What head number are they? I bet they would add at least a good 30hp and 15 tq. Hopefully you had them milled and/or will be using a .040 cometic gasket.

Hi Jonny

I have yet to install the TSP heads. They are milled .020, and ready to go.

Last season I learned my oil control rings (most likely) were not up to snuff anymore and when coming off high RPM, shed burn oil. You can actually see it on the Dyno video right before the vid cuts off of the smoke coming from the tail pipe.

So the new plan was to pull the motor and re-ring it cheaply and at that point do the heads etc. but life has a habit of getting in the way, and this Spring's project may turn into a Fall or next year project. Also I'm open to finding a 6.0 or 6.2 short block and do a proper swap while I'm at it.

Several reasons on why I chose to use the Hot Cam. First, I needed to replace the balancer and crank seal, it was an absolute mess down there. Second, this cam came up for sale as a new takeout from one of GMs LS3 495hp crate motors. Came with the Springs also, all for an absurdly reasonable price. Thirdly, I was learning the ropes with HP Tuners, and what better way to practice then to dial in a new cam. I'm still working on the tuning (part throttle stuff largely), almost have all the buck tamed out of it.
