Hey everyone. Someone is selling a used Comp cam with these specs. Was wanting to get some feedback on what I could expect out of this cam grind on an LS6 with Vararam, headers and catless x, and of course I would do dual springs, TI retainers, and probably get the heads CNC’ed at TSP. The other cam I was looking at was the Torquer V4 so how would this cam compare in performance?
IF this is a primarily street driven car and manners matter at all?
231/237 on a 112* LSA Will Require an EXCELLENT Tune.
Something Like The Cam Motion LS1 Titan 4,
227/232 on a 113* LSA will add 50+ RWHP, even more if the 243s are ported
tune and drive much nicer at low and part throttle below ~2000 rpm.
Just my .02

Echoing the same sentiments as the owner of a C5 with the Titan 4 cam. I went with TrickFlow 215 heads, ported, milled a few thousandths for increased compression, Johnson lifters, AR headers, Callaway Honker, FAST 102. Basically everything you could throw at the motor to make it bullet proof, max effort, except for the cam, which is a compromise cam with less radical lobes, easier on the valve train and excellent driveability. The car makes fantastic power.
Navy is correct. I have a 224 on a 114 with ported 243s. It indeed added quite a bit more than 50 hp. Very happy, revs to the moon. (Shout out to Cardelli Motorsports of San Mateo.)
FWIW, I had a 232/234 @ 112, so just slightly smaller than that one, and it was tons of fun, but it was also on the edge of what I think most people would find acceptable.
Lurching in first gear at low RPM (below 1500), peak torque at around 4000 RPM.
450whp on one dyno, 475 on another.
If you don't mind keeping the RPM up get full strength, and don't mind a bit of awkwardness when putting around in a parking lot, go for it.
If those sound annoying, then the Titan 4 is probably a better choice.
Yeah I’m kinda split on which way to go. I keep seeing people comment on the Torquer V4 that if you have a really good tune then the surging/buckling is not an issue, but of course this is very subjective. Might have to go the more conservative route so that the wife doesn’t hate riding in the car.
Any idea what I would be losing in terms of power going from a Torquer V4 to the Titan 4?
LOL
If you care at all about your wife's experience riding in your car.....
The Titan 4 is the UPPER Limit imo.
Otherwise forget about "DateNight" in the Vette.
My cam had the same specs as a Torquer v2 (2, not 4) but my local shop wanted to get the cam from his vendor.
My wife was fine with it, but the Torquer v4 has a lot more overlap so I'd expect it to be more awkward to drive.
I'm getting ready to pull trigger on BTR top end kit with Trick Flow heads milled to 64CC spring kit etc... they recommended a Stage 3 V2 cam 227/243 636/636 LSA111.5 its a 2002 Z06 and I have a Fast 92MM intake with LS2 throttle body. My question is this cam looks really big on the lift?? Any thoughts??

I'd be more concerned about the 12 degrees of overlap. I had a cam with 9 degrees overlap in my C5 and that was about the biggest that I think I'd want in a daily.
Cam Motion has a web page, and a little Windows app called Cam Timer, that will compute valve events and overlap based on the usual specs, they are useful tools for comparing cams.
