Hey everyone I have a bone stock automatic 98 C5 and I just got money to put towards mods. What do you guys recommend for headers, midpipe, and exhaust. I want my vette to be hella loud and gain HP for sure.

Thanks Jeff

If this is your first fast car.....make sure you practice driving it first. I would not be standing here today if I had a Vette at 16. Be careful!

What else do you plan on doing to the car, heads, cam, etc..?
I have Kooks headers, offroad X-pipe, and PRT mufflers. At idle it sounds nice and is LOUD at half to full throttle.

If your really 16 and have a 98 vette........WOW! took me 20 years more to get there. My advice is to read, learn, and find people with modded vettes before you indulge. This will save you lots of money and anguish by learning from others. Good luck!

The only reason I have a vette is because my dads the GM at a chevy dealership and he can steal them at good prices. I am very blessed to have this car.

I was fortunate enough to have an understanding father when I was 16 too. He got me a 1964 GTO (very hot in those days).

I promptly went out, got enough tickets to pay the Atlanta Police force for a month, wrecked it twice and got my license suspended. To this day I thank God I didn't kill anyone because I had no more business behind the wheel of that thing than I did at the controls of a jet aircraft.

Having a hot car at 16 is tough. Everyone wants to race you. Remember, if you're driving a Corvette, you rarely have to PROVE how fast it is. Everyone already knows.

COGRATS ON THE CAR!!!!!!!!!

MANY GOOD PIECES OF ADVICE......PLEASE BE CAREFUL! WRECKED A MOTORCYCLE WHEN I WAS 17.....LUCKY TO BE HERE.

AS FOR THE MODS.....I WOULD RECOMMEND THE BORLA STINGERS AND SOME COLD AIR INDUCTION.

IF IT IS A 98, GET SOME CHROMIES....THE SAWBLADES ARE UGLY. CHROME Z06 RIMS ALWAYS LOOK NICE.

If you get headers, be sure to get Long Tube Headers. You get very little if any performance boost with Shorties! LGM and Kooks seem to give the best performance gains (they're not cheap of course).

Borla Stingers sound sweet too!!!

wow - I am responding to this late.

Anyways, the loudest and best sounding exhauast is without question the Loudmouths. HOWEVER - the interior resonance will be very loud and you may get sick of it for a while.

Best bang for your buck, without question, is just to throw AFR heads on the car + cam. That'll get you 70 RWHP EASILY stock.

If you wanna go the different route then vararam/halltech (only those two by the way) intake Fast Manifold (you don't have the 01 - 04 intake so you'll see a much better improvement than most) and the X-pipe/Loudmouths. Long Tubes give you a GREAT gain - shorties aren't worth the money.

BUT - with the same money you spend on all that you could get the AFR heads + cam and make MORE HP.

Of course, this is all in my humble opinion. I bought MY OWN vette and I am only 22 so I won't give you all the crap about being young everyone else does. Of course, I was smart enough to put khumo ecsta mx tires (295 rear), bilstein shocks, and hotchkiss swaybars.

When I put my exhaust + x pipe on I am also putting the abs of steel on it to firm up the chassis even more. The point is that you need to do your suspension FIRST because it's what saves your a$$ when you mess up going 110 miles an hour on the freeway showing off your vette (we all know you will).

I think at least for a better qtr mile ET, if I were starting over again I would go with better tires and a higher stall trqu converter. I know that will not due much for your sound. The best deal I found on cat backs was a mangna flow over the axle strait dual exhaust. Here are the specs and web page, I raced these all season and I like them. Also I like the price on these headers Jet hot I have a link where I purchased these.
5.7L V8, Full System, With Tru-X Crossover $616.07
4x4x18" Magnapack Mufflers (Aggressive Tone),
2.5" Tubing, Rear Exit, Dual Tips
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/c...s/corvette.htm this is the link for the cat backs
http://ls1performanceparts.com/ link for the headers
I can not testify to the headers yet, still need to install. With the headers I suggest a starter wrap, high flow cats, and I am putting both O2 sensors back on. I plan to take it to a performance shop and have it tuned with hptuner after the install. I have many other mods on my car if you have any questions send me an email or post again. If you are going with headers I would not get a hand held tuner, go with LS1 or hptuner, I plan to have a pro keep the program for me at his shop and do the tuning.

Heh I'm 21(just recently) and I know where you're coming from. I started with a WS6 TransAm in highschool and moved up to the vette for college:P Anyway... LG longtube headers with offroad pipes and borla dual stingers. Combined with a yank torque converter(had mine installed last week). It not only really wakes these autos up but it also allows you to cruise at higher RPM's so your car sounds louder heh. Depending on your rear gearing 3.15 or 2.73 I'd suggest Y3000(3.15) or TT2800(2.73). Those are mild enough not to get you killed. Add in a Fast intake and throttle body later on and you'd be a solid low 12 second punk kid. I personally went a bit more radicle on my first set up. Yank SS4000 + 3.73 gears + headers + tuning + Thunder 224 114 cam + asp pulley + about a half dozen other things heh. I ended up selling that cause it was just too much for every day driving.
