Default C5 performance chip/programmer & intake system

Hi. I am looking to use either a JET or Hypertech reprogrammer in my 1998 stock C5 Corvette. Any recommendations which will perform better? Realistically, how much HP should I receive? I have already redone the exhaust and added a K&N filter. I am trying to bump my HP up to 400 or so (without spending alot of cash). It has also been recommended I purchase a Halltech Stinger intake system or the K&N intake system from Mid America. Which of these intake systems is recommended?

Jet=TOTAL POS

Hypertech=better

LS1edit=BEST

Donaldson Blackwing or the Vararam induction system are the two best choices for air intakes

Mid America sells both

Get an LS1edit tune right after you install your new intake/exhaust combo...i'd guess anywhere from a 10 to 20rwhp gain.

I appreciate the quick reply. I am not looking to "reprogram" the computer, as the Hypertech and LS1 Edit do. I am simply looking for a dummies approach (plug-n-play) to help increase horsepower. Is the JET reprogrammer really a POS? I understand you simply plug it in and away you go without any manual reprogramming needed.

Yes.

I have heard SO many bad things about it...not worth a dime.

I too would looooove to be able to plug-n-play, but sadly to get a great tune and pick up some good numbers, you'll need to have a shop tune it for you...preferably on a dyno.

Like I said, LS1edit is pretty much the best as far as proven gains...the only downside is that it's $500 or so. You can keep adding mods and keep utilizing each one with the superior tuning tool

Take it from someone that wasted their money on one of these overpriced paperweights early on in their LS1 modding career. The Jet chip/module is, in a word, Junk with a capital J. I bought a Jet Stage II module for my then-new 1999 Camaro SS and got absolutely no gains from it whatsoever as verified via dyno testing. The only thing it did was raise my shift points slightly, but that was hardly worth the cost of the unit.

You'd be much better served and your money would be better spent if you paid a little extra and got a Hypertech or Predator unit. Both give you step-by-step screen instructions and walk you through the programming process. They are simplicity itself and then do what they are advertised to do.

Good luck!

with the man 100%. Predator or Hypertech would be better. I brought the Hypertech, because it is easy to use. With Hypertech, you will also need a new thermostat 160 F for best performance. You can go back to "Stock Setting" with 1 push of a button.

Now, the predator is "so they say better." However, it will require more detail program. You make the call.

IMO go with a professional tune w/ LS1Edit on a DYNO to quantify your results. I put the standard performance tune on my Z06, and yes, the torq was broader and stronger but the top end suffered above 6,000. It was verifeid within a few days at the same track, as I went 12.44 @ 110 with the predator, and then went 12.43 @ 113 with the stock tune back. Hope this helps.
